Hello Everyone,

New member here. Been a boater for years but this is our first jetski. Got a 96 GTX this summer and have had a lot of fun, but starting problems cropped up. Took it back to the dealer that sold it to us and he has had it for a month. Says that the starter is bad and is waiting for the part. Is it really that difficult to get a starter for this machine? Any advice on where to locate a starter?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ski.

You can check EBay, DON'T BUY A $50.00 STARTER ON EBAY, you are better off either buying a good used starter, or a rebuilt. You can also buy a rebuild kit for your starter. It's a tough job getting the starter off and back on, but if you have some patience it can be done.

I second LouStrau. I went the rebuild kit route last year and it was pretty straight forward. Just pay attention when you take it apart so you reassemble the same way. Putting the brushes in the wrong way will result in the starter running backwards.

The plot has thickened quite a bit since we installed the new starter. There is now something draining the battery. Been through all of the electrical system components and everything checks out. Dealer thinks there might be a short somewhere.

Installed a battery switch so that it can be turned off between uses. Is it possible that the new battery is bad? What else should I check?
