Another oil pump/premix question..

As if there isn't enough already.

I only have about 3 hours on fresh top end...those 3 hours were on the injection system (using seadoo Xps synthetic yellow container) plus a quart or so I added to the gas tank...
1.5hr ride, ran great no issues.
Another 1.5hr ride, ran great..the wear ring went but I was only 100yrds from the dock thankfully and just putted over...then..
At the dock loading up hull was completely clean and dry..get home (1 mile drive) half the oil or more is leaked into the hull...long story short it's not the tank seam, tank crack anywhere else, bottom tank grommet, inline filter or oil line..tank holds pressure, tank and line hold oil all the way up to the pump....pump won't hold pressure or oil..

Got the motor finished late in the season, and now I would like to get a few more hours on the motor before I take the pipe off, take the pump off, etc. and look into the oil pump issue/replacement...so in the mean time before a winter mini tear down, should I run a stronger pre mix for a few more hours or just go to 40:1 ?
And is there any harm in just running it on premix without taking the pump off and adding a block plate ? Obviously low oil warning will be on, but not sure if there's any other issues it could cause if any..? No lines need to be looped or anything ? And I think I read a way to trick the low oil sensor..connect the wires maybe..?

You didn't say what ski you have, if it's a ski with a rotary valve you need to leave the tank installed so it drip feeds the rotary valve. Also if you have no oil feeding the pump the pump will eventually freeze up. So yes you will need to either disable the pump or use a block off plate.

Lou is partially right the RV oil bath does need oil, but it really doesnt cycle its just a bath. As long as the bigger lines have a few inches full of oil on each side you are fine there.

My best guess is you didnt clip the oil lines a little before reinstalling, or a clamp is not holding the oil back. It can also be the fitting on the oil pump, but then there would be air in the injection lines and most likely burned up if drove like that.

Mix at 50-1 and go for it. ONLY if its a carbed model though.

Thanks guys..

Sorry Lou it's a 99' GSX-L 951...carbed, not a di , late 11/98 build date
reed valve , not rotary valve..I believe..?

Minn..
I did clip the lines back a little with fresh cuts to make them tight and they are zip tied.
I pulled the feed line from the pump and put a vise grip on the line after the inline filter..then filled the tank almost halfway (just below the seam as I was 99% it wasn't the seam itself leaking) the oil stayed in the tank and the line for 24hrs+ ...I then reconnected the line, let the vice grips loose, and within about 2 hours the tank was empty..
I pulled the tank feed line and put a pressure tester on and you can hear air coming out from somewhere. It's just so damn tight in the GSX hull the pump is barely visible let alone accessible to remove without pulling the pipe..I do like the oil injection and plan to re use it in the spring.

O.K., you can forget about keeping the tank, your ski has reed valves, however I would still need to disable the oil pump, you and remove the pump from the mag. housing, remove the oil pump shaft (part 13), and then re-install the oil pump. The oil pump gets it's lubrication from the oil running through it, no oil no lubrication and eventually the oil pump will lock up.

If you are planning to permanently disable the oil pump, you should also cap off the nozzles at base of the carbs.

If you pulled on the feed hose you most likely broke the pressed in fitting on the oil pump loose. That will let air into the system, so do not run it until you replace or setup for premix.

I didn't pull on it too hard but I assume that's possible as it wouldn't hold pressure.
I'm going to premix for a few rides until the weather gets a little brisky and then pull the pump and rebuild or replace it.
Just installed a new prop and wear ring, gonna water test it today..(already premixed 50:1 in the tank)
