I replaced the starter on my 03 RXDI about a month ago. It started 3 times then something inside the starter broke. I sent it back and got a replacment. I installed then replacment and everything seemed fine. I've started it about 5 times or so. Yesterday when I started it I could hear the starter turning but not the motor. Then some how I got it to start up. I shut it off and tried agian now all I get is a click and a loud beep just like before with the other starter. Is it the motor or just bad starters?

If you're buying the starters off EBay for around $50.00 (made in China) its the starter. I bought one from Overton's, Arrow brand, (I think) a couple of years ago, seems to be O.K. The other options are, OEM real expensive, rebuild your OEM starter probably about $35.00.

It's from db Electrical. Cost about 50. The shaft on the starter had a little play in it. I wasn't sure if that was right or not. do you think I might have some teeth broken off the flex plate or what ever it is and it's tearing up the starters. I didn't see any wear on the starters gear.

No it only engages when it starts, it has a bendix, similar to an automotive starter, that energizes when the start button is pressed and retracts when the engine start button is released.

I looked up the starter in the manual, its not called a bendix on this starter, its penion gear, return spring, penion stopper, it performs the same function as the bendix on an automotive starter.

On the 951s its a separate piece. 787 and older it was part of the starter.

You need a OEM starter...those chinese ones are crap. OEM is over $200 I think. Find a good used OEM. I dont have any in stock, but I'm sure my bro does.

If you have your old OEM starter bring it to a rebuilder.

Yeah they are crap. I took the second one off and the internals are yet agian shattered. I'm going to try to make one out of the new housing and another that isn't oem but internals are good, and keep an eye on ebay for a stock unit.
