I've got a 08 seadoo gti 155 se 4 tec. I'm sorting things out for a oil change and the such, I'm seeing what looks like different filter sizes ( IE some taller then others), also what is the difference between what they are calling gti and gti rental? as I bought my ski from a rental place.
I'm also seeing HiFlo oil filters as well which look to be taller in sizes, is there any difference in these as per well a normal flowing filter?
I'm just wondering what sort of filter o rings and all this am I'm acutally looking for? I've googled (seadoo+gti+155+se+oil+filter).
Cheers

All 4tec oil filters are the same size. Doesn't really matter too much which one you use and haven't seen any inferior ones in the market. Should be changed every year so it doesn't see nearly the use of an automotive type.

The rental model is kind of a stripped down version as far as options of the gti but no real difference with regards to the engine. The rentals use a rental key that limits speed and acceleration but all models have this ability anyway with a learner key. No big deal buying a rental unit, it can also use the normal key which gives full speed and acceleration.

oil filter.jpgWell that clears it up ski-d00. Anything special tools what-not I will need? I've got a small filter remover I use for my car, would that work of it fits or am I going to have to buy something different. I know I have to extract the old oil with a pump which I have just hope it will work as it's an el-cheapo sort of pump. I seen a post in regards to the types of oil lastnite somewhere by memory someone said it would be ok to use 10w 40 oil in non super/turbo changed engines instead of the highly over priced BRP oils on the shelfs is this true or not? I don't have a owners manual for my ski to refer too regarding this and I know what the stealership would tell me so I wont even bother going that direction.
Another confusion from the manual it shows the filter screw and cover are towards the top side of the engine though looking at my engine I see the filter screw and cover on the top of the filter, question what is being pointed out in 1 and 2 as per the manual ( section 3 subsection 8 lube system) I have attached a pic of what I believe to the filter and it's housing.
cheers

No special tools, just the e-torx and strong fingers to work the cap back and forth, side to side, to get it off. Don't dig in there with a screwdriver to try and pry it off like everybody else does. There is an o-ring there that you will ruin and you will chew up the aluminum. Pull on each side, back and forth, may take some patience but it will come off.

No idea what you are referring to in the manual. It couldn't be much simpler. Loosen bolt, remove cap, pull filter out. Your pic shows it right in the middle.

Any good 10W40 will work fine. In your non sc, I'd use a good synthetic oil.

Cheers ski-d00, that's what I figured, I got the manual online the instruction pics are very dotted black and white sometimes its hard to tell what they are actually pointing out and referring to. once again cheers for the help man.
How often is it recommended to change the jet pump oil as well.?
I love this forum sometimes more then my mrs :)

If that's your Mrs in your avatar....

Just a observation, your engine looks oil splattered. Unless its just storage oil, you might have a leak somewhere.

Yeah I noticed that over our winter here was having a look around yesterday and it looks as if may be coming from around the filter area. If it is leaking the machine has been rode hard and put away wet ( ex. rental)

Replace all 3 o rings on the filter cap when you replace the filter, maybe its leaking there. It looks like it was spraying though, usually the filter cap drips if it leaks. You might want to clean it all up and warm it up in the water on the trailer and look, maybe even ride with the seat off and look for any leaking oil. Sometimes they only leak under half-full throttle.

cheers, I'm currently in the process of doing all sorts of things with it and the trailer at the moment, just ordered a new filter and plugs, so when they get here I'll sort all that out. I do also use Inox spray before and after having it out, Inox is a water repellent, not sure if its sold in the U.S.

What's recommended for the jet pump oil? Also I seen a couple YouTube vids where they removed the jet pump housing and cone piece to drain out the old oil but after having a look at my ski, by the looks of the picture this could be a siphon plug? image.jpgimage.jpg

That's not a siphon plug.

The 4Tecs have grease in the pump, pull the pump, pull the cone and check for water intrusion. On mine I pack the bearing face with grease then fill the cone 1/2 full of gear oil and reinstall the cone. I feel the grease and oil slurry mix lubricates the bearing better than straight grease.

Cheers Tytan just realised that after having a better look at the manual, I was hoping to get by without having to dismantle the jet and all.
Can anyone tell me what size the e-torx / hex screw is on the oil filter cap is? I can not find it in the manual to save my life, I'm thinking I seen somewhere it was a 13mm but not sure and I'm gonna have to buy that tool.

Just checked my ski....E8 on the sc and an E10 on the oil filter cap.

I couldn't buy just a single torx socket...had to buy a set, so...
