Advice on seadoo's

the 97 model XP's and on are only 1 seaters u have no chance of doubling a passenger

Yeh I have noted that, just can't see why they are so hard to double up? I know there a different hull but surely it'd be similar to a motorbike, once your moving it'd be more stable.

I figure for a first ski have to start somewhere, and it's too expensive to get a ski from interstate.

Would anyone be able to tell me what year this XP is?

The guy thinks it's a 96?

that would be the 1998 model limited 951 dual carb model im not sure how the XP owners do it but in sydney we are often pulled up by maritime and water police in boats and on jetskis mid river for safety and registration inspections so i donno how the XP riders manage to stay sitting on the ski while getting the check done they are just that unstable lol

Thanks gazza I thought it was, but for some reason the owner thinks it's a 96 but he wasn't sure. He's asking $3500 for it, had a rebuild 3 years ago and been used a handfull of time's since.

in 1996 the XP was still the 2 seater X4 hull design i personally would be factoring in a rebuild kit jet maniac does these i donno how much the 951 is but the 580 i was quoted $560 shipped crank and piston kits

i thought i seen that jetski earlier today http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seadoo-J...g_Water_Sports_Watercraft&hash=item2325ef8706 did u notice the handle bar pad all taped up with electrical tape? :willy_nilly:

Yeh I was thinking that I'd have to budget a rebuild, but I'm stuck with having to pay a mechanic to do it. Got a quote from local seadoo mechanic he said $1200 top end and upwards of $3000 for full rebuild. Rip Off!

And yes I did noticed the tape and asked the seller he said "the tape is just covering a hole from were a small plastic cover goes.i didnt know wether it had to be water proof or not so i taped it up"

I can't make my mind up whether to go for the XP hull or the GSX.

ive never owned or worked on a XP of that year so i dont know about the handle bar pad

have u thought about driving to melbourne on saturday stay the night pick up a seadoo in the morning and head home? plenty of nice jetskis on ebay in melbourne 8h 10min drive

I have considered driving to Melbourne, How ever I worked it out, It'd cost me about $280 in fuel, + hotel cost for 2, Then re-registration and inspection of the trailer and ski.

It is still crossing my mind that's for sure.

im often doing lengthy trips for ebay buys i have drove from sydney to coffs harbour 6.5 hour drive each way and sydney to armidale 10 hours drive each way just to buy motor bikes in the last 3 weeks ive driven from sydney to forster 4 hours each way and sydney to bathurst about 3 hours each way the last two places to buy jetskis
u can stay in a caravan park as funny as it sounds most caravan parks have portable units u stay in with all mod cons they only charge about $65 a night

Like I said it's definatly still an option as theres no GSX's down here in SA! Haven't seen many GSX's in Vic or NSW appart from your old one. I did see 2 but they have both been sold. Got a fairly small budget too, trying to get a ski around $4k or less.

its not that bad, i've had a passenger on my xp a few times, you both just have to know what you're doing, and keep your weight centered on the ski. even riding one up it can surprise you, i was idling in a cove once and next thing i know, i'm in the water.

That 720 motor is ok but just because Seadoo put it in a ski does not mean it is a great choice. They used it as a low price point solution for newbies. I have the GTI that came with the 85 hp motor. The GTX in the same year has the hull but comes with a 787 in it and will definitely handle more riders and towable a better. Mine was bought with my girls in mind so I new for them anything would work. An XP or GSX will eat my lunch out the hole and cornering. Mine is ok solo but its only a 3 seater for kids.

aww comon now.. they're not that bad !!!! 1 person can easily sit on that w/o concerns of tipping over... now granted I don't recommend riding two up, but its definitely been done, just takes an experienced rider/passenger to run two up, i've seen two younger guys do a mangrove run two up on that hull, its not a big deal, it just feels like your going to tip over.

have u bought a ski yet? if not keep looking around i found a seadoo GSX 97 had been on gumtree for over a week asking price was $1500 i got it for $1200 1 month rego the owner didnt know what was wrong with it i got home jump started it and it started right up needs a new battery and the starter motor rebuilt not bad for a $1200 buy
