I changed my oil on my 97xp and 99xp with no problem, so I thought. I followed the instruction guides "thanks guys" and perfect. However when I took off my cones, the oil in the one(97xp), was stinky (which is good) and not alot at all and the (99xp) was really runny, and almost none. The one cone had a pinched gasket so I replaced it. Now I connected them and installed a new oring, however I have fun some oil on the bottom plate. The oil is not leaking from the cone oil, is there somewhere else the oil can leak from and if so, what should I do??? Help, I want to get this fixed before the season starts.

When you say not alot at all, and almost none, are you referring to the amount of oil that cam out of the pump? If yes, you've got a leak. Could be the plug in the cone, a common missed item to seal, or the shaft seal in the back behind the impeller. Its also possible that the oring for the pump cone is leaking as well.

When you put them together did you pressure test the pump first to check for leaks? It should hold 10psi for 10 mins.

As far as oil on the ride plate, that could be just from taking the cone off. I take my pump off my ski and change it outside the hull so no oil get into the water when I launch.

what color was the oil, or whats left in there..if it didnt look contaminated with water..brown/milky..etc, then you aint gotta leak.
