I bought the 880 just cause it was too good of a deal to pass on, still new in the box.

I think I paid $89 for the 1100# on sale with a coupon and $69 for the 880# the same way

The 1100# I bought to lift my kids Moon Bounce--not the pansy moon bounce either it's a full blow rental moon bounce 200#. The 1100# hoist doesn't bat an eye at it. I lift it up the slide it effortlessly on to my mezzanine. I used a roller door track for the left to right movement. I don't think I'd throw a small block ford at it, the moon bounce will be the biggest thing it lifts.

What about just for ski's use? Most likely just engines......but then again would be nice just to lift the ski off the trailer instead of dragging it. How'd you mount the hoist up there with the roller door track? Got anymore pics?

Well, going out for the maiden today.. Filthy as hell, full of leaves, 1/2 tank of old gas with new mixed in, no spare plugs and nobody else going out with us to tow us back if needed. What could possibly go wrong? Hopefully I'll be updating this later with a report lmao.

Well, no good news really. The rebuilt motor does not want to idle and would shut off randomly at rpm too. I had the carbs off and they looked good, but I'm going to look them over again to see if I missed anything. I know from my ski that all the oil I used assembling it would get sucked into the motor at high rpm's and cause it to stall, idle poorly, etc. but I just want to make sure it isn't a carb issue. Every once in a while, it will be idling on one cylinder, then two, then 1 1/2 lol. It's not spark, I swapped the wires and it makes no difference. Compression is 145 in each cylinder, so that seems fine.

A couple questions for those with similar boats (racer )- this thing will barely move on one engine- revs almost like a worn wear ring, but they're both new- is this normal? Also, reverse is virtually non-existent. Have to rev the snot out of it to get it to even want to move backwards. Again, is this normal? My Speedster 150, reverse has nearly as much thrust as forward. Double checked the gates and they seem to be working as they should.

You'll never plane on one engine there is so much drag. I don't use reverse, but it works best at idle. There is the low speed control cables that raise the rpm of the appropriate engine when you turn the steering wheel to full lock one way or the other. That system works awesome for docking, but remember it's all low speed. Sorry for any typos, posting from my phone

Gotcha, I just expected more than a cavitating 10mph lol. I'll mess with reverse next time out and see what it does, I just know the only way to really get it off the trailer was to back up and hit the brakes. My 08, reverse has some serious authority! I can use it as a brake from top speed to 0 in no time .

Anyway, fixed the running issue today. Dumbass me should have checked the carb sync. Like everything else I've fixed so far, someone was in there before and had it all out of wack- at idle, that one carb was completely closed. Dug in to sync them and the linkage rod was about 1/2" too long. I know there is a little bit of slop in the mounting bolts, but 1/2" is quite a bit more than that would allow! Sync'd the carbs, hit the button and it fired right up and idles perfectly. Hopefully another test run tomorrow!

Then you can start up and back off if you like at this point. The one ramp I use has a real long dock along it with huge steel hoops to slide up and down for the tide and those will be no where near my boat. I actually turn the boat completely around on the ramp and then drive out forwards. People probably look at me like a freak but that also accounts for no scratches on my boat. I watch all the old salty guys, the guys who just don't care and the fishermen with their shit-ass aluminum boats and their faded out crap rub the steel hoops, I care for my boat way too much. It wasn't until about a few years ago that I would actually tie off to a dock, and I still hate doing it even with the bumpers between the boat and dock. I would make my wife hold the boat an arms reach off the dock and far away from other boats. I've come back to the dock to hear her chewing out someone for trying to park a 20' boat between ours where there was zero room to fit a 16' boat. My Speedster is like my first, first born. Glad you got the carbs sorted out, lets get another update!

See, my 08 I usually back off. I back the trailer up most of the way, jump in the boat and have the wife back up the last 10' or so and back the boat off. I do spin it pretty much on it's own axis and pull away forward though. I cut the wheel in reverse pretty much once the boat is clear from the trailer, then when it gets about 90* through the turn, I put it in forward, finish the spin and pull away. Get some strange looks doing that, gotta love the jet boats . I have no issues tying to a dock with it though. If it gets scratched, it gets scratched. I used to care a lot more, but after getting beat up on the docks in PA, I figured what the hell and run with it. I used to be a detail freak with my cars too, not anymore. Again, I think PA changed that for me too- something about driving your new 05 Vette down a dirt road that makes something inside you snap lol. It is a lot less stressful this way though .

I'll let you guys know how it goes. I can't believe it was something so simple. I had wanted to check them from the start but with the running issues, I ironically never got around to it lol.. I never imagined it would be off that much, I don't know why people touch things like that when they have no clue what they are doing!

I'm hoping to get it out tomorrow, and if I like it (which is honestly going to take a lot after working on the damn thing lol), I'll be cleaning it up and getting it to the upholsterer for the seats. From what I could tell from the ride yesterday, so far I am honestly liking the 08 more. Not counting the running issues, just the overall differences between the two. I'll have to get this in some chop to see how the ride compares.

I would like to hear the comparison just for the knowledge. I do get hung up on looks as I did with my 96 XP's. The Mrs. and I have always said they were the best looking ski's made and that we ever owned. And we say the same about the Speedster--we are biased towards both color included. I will not make the same mistake with our Speedster as I did with our XP's and sell it. To be honest, the only time I'm under the hatch is to wash down the engines, check the spark plugs, grease the PTO's, just do an overall visual for pre-launch, so I think once you get it rock solid your good to go. Oh and to winterize it and remove the battery--that is the hardest thing I do.

I notice a difference between fresh and salt water riding. In the fresh I contend with boat wake--I hate the boat and would probably never like it on a populated lake. In fresh I tend to say in the creeks(canals) not the river unless I get there early and can rip. The boat wakes tend to dwell too long and bounce off the coast. In salt I have slight chop(real tight compared to the boat wakes) and I love it and it's all back water canals and I can carve and rip. And the days the salt water is glass I'll get a small amount of porpoising but I just back off to 6,500 and it goes away then it's right back to 7K. To me it's like an over sized ski.

I like the size of the 99 over the 08, the 08 is just too crowded feeling but I like the overall performance of the 08 better so far.

I was kind of thinking the same thing about being under the hatch not being an issue once it is all 100%, but it is still fresh in my mind how much this thing sucks to work on lol.

The 08 is a back breaker in the chop. I have literally compressed my spine so hard that I'm surprised I haven't fractured anything. My skis are a smoother ride than it is! Really need to just take it slow in the choppy stuff. Going fast helps a bit too, but there is always that one rogue wave at speed that doesn't tickle lol.

The 08 does not porpoise at all, I feel it actually has too much down thrust in it. It would be faster with a couple degrees up and probably ride a hell of a lot smoother too. I think part of the reason it is such a harsh ride is because it pushes down on the waves so hard.

OK, been a while since I've posted here. I took the boat out a while back and the fresh motor took a dump (for those that saw my other post, I also tore my bicep tendon that same day so I am just getting back into things now!). I have to look into the fuel system and possibly oil injection as it melted down the top end. I went through the carbs and did new filters while it was apart, but there is something else going on apparently. I am debating if I want to bother fixing it or just unload it. We just bought an 01 Maxum 1800 bow rider for the family, so I don't see this one getting much use even if I do fix it .
