97 xp starts and shuts off

any one see this problem i am not sure if it's the mpem or something else I get my two beeps and the motor starts right up runs for ten seconds and then shuts down like I pulled the lanyard.

It sounds like a lanyard problem.

1) Clean the contacts in the lanyard, and on the post with either an eraser, or a little baking soda, and water. (and rub it) Basically, a very light abrasive is needed to clean off light oxidation.

2) the post can go bad. The little magnetic switch in the post will eventually fail. It's a common problem.
