Not sure what sealant to use when installing the jetpump. The manual shows that the threads for the fittings get loctite 518 and between the housing/ride plate needs a neoprene seal and a sealant. What is the correct sealant for this?

Also, around the thru hull fittings for the bilge siphons and cooling line (green circles in pic) , what goes around that to keep the water from leaking around those fittings.

The PO had installed the pump with a ton of black silocone before, looked like windshield sealant of some kind. I do have the oil rings for the balers and the neoprene seal.

Be sure to get a fresh impeller seal and take a file to those leading edges and that pump will be perfect. I like two pumps of grease in there before the drive shaft also.

Anyway. "The Right Stuff" is the official OEM silicone but the slightly lower grade "Black Ultra" does great. It just takes longer to dry and both are in the Permatex brand. I like to use a good bit around those holes. When I'm out of stick on 140mm neoprene seals(like now) I just put a bead around the edge of the wear ring. The pump comes back off without too much trouble and never cavitates.

I've always just used Locktite clear adhesive/sealant (from Lowes) at the hull penetrations, and nothing on the neoprene gasket, the neoprene gasket should be peal and stick on the pump support side. Never had a problem, I'm knocking wood.

Thanks Matt
Ya that impeller seal didnt even have the protective cone on it, so I think the water pressure just tore the rubber apart. Just to clarify, if I have a neoprene seal there is no other sealant required around that pump area?

I will seal up the small holes for the fittings and vts with the silicone.

Thanks Lou
Good to know, probably easier to find locally. I dont remember having to do this on my GTX, they must have had thru hull fittings with Orings or something to seal them up.

Yep, my 95XP800 and my 96GTI the pumps mount like yours, I think it's SeaDoo old school, or would it be even older school than the GSX's.

Yes the Neoprene seal will take care of the pump and any good 100 percent silicone will work fine on the through hull fittings if they are well prepped.

Its kind of a dumb design, every time the pump comes off there is a good chance of something not being sealed up properly.

When I was fighting with all the black silicone to remove the pump, I broke the cooling inlet nipple off, not realizing that the nipples were coming out with the pump..........I know I should have looked at the manual first, but you know how it is, sometimes I think I know it all.

Yes the newer style with the O-rings is nice. If you have a lot of old style pump pulling to do it is worth a cheese whiz style can of The Right Stuff(not a generalization but an actual product from Permatex). It's like $20 but fun to use and sets in 5 minutes so you can ride that day.

That right stuff...I use it when resealing things I dont plan on taking apart again like a pump shoe or ride plate. That sheit is so sticky and doesnt scrape away very easy.

You dont have to go nuts around the tubes with the silicone...just a nice bead all the way around each one.

Anyone that has had to take a pump off by strapping the pump to a tree and pulling on the ski/trailer with a truck to get the pump off knows...just use silicone and use just enough to do the job.

If it was easy anybody could do it!
