97 spx oil fouled plugs

Recently purchased 97 spx 800. Previous owner said it always ran rich, and he used seadoo synthetic oil. Pump is aligned. Could the type of oil be causing the problem, and if it is , can you switch back to mineral oil?

And since you have RAVE valves, NO MINERAL oils. Synthetic oil wont cause a RICH problem where its like that. My SPX Runs really rich too. Better that then lean.

Questions.. Would be.. Are there any mods to the Ski? Engine been rebuilt? Carbs been done before? Stock? Give us some info so we can assist your issue a little better. How often you change plugs? Do you look after your machine properly?

machine is completely stock. Had it in the water once, because i recently bought it. Checked all fluids, filters, new battery, new gas, Primed the oil pump and lines. Checked pump synchro with carb cable. Checked plugs after flushing, and checked them after short ride-30min.Plugs are wet,dark,insul-black. Put in hotter plug-1number, and rode again. Plugs look exactly the same. Hope info helps in helping me.

took apart both raves, and they were clean, didn't see any torn orings and they move freely. Confused on adjustment though. Manual says to set the red button flush with top of cap, but mine are set about halfway, or 3 marks down

bottom them out, and keep the "rave" on the muffler, flush with cap.

you verified, that pump is aligned?

Take plug boots off, and clip wires 1/4in

Raves on engine were bottomed out, rave on exhaust which I had not checked, was flush, but sticking. Cleaned, reassembled, new plugs, thanks for the great tips. Runs smooth and clean!
