Hi everyone out there.
I'm a fairly new seadoo boat owner--bought it last year and love it--such a fun boat.

Problem though, is on start up, it's embarrasing as all get out with the big cloud of oily smoke. this continues for several minutes until the engine warms up.

What do you think is going on with my boat?
Thanks for any input

Most likley the rotary valve seals are leaking some oil when the boat sits for a while.. There is not much you can do about it without a complete rebuild.. If it runs just keep using it unless you want to rebuild the entire engine...

It is possible that the Rotary Valve seals are bad in the crank. It allows oil to seep into the cylinders as the seals are on each side of the rotary valve chamber in the bottom end of the crank are getting old and needs replacement. The problem is you need to pull the engine and split the cases and either rebuild the crank or replace the engine to solve the problem. With a seadoo that old I would just run it. What is happening is the oil is seeping in and mixing with you fuel as a extra rich mixture. The oil is injector oil shared in the same tank as the injector oil is. As the problem gets worse it will lead to fouled spark plugs, and hard starting.

Mine does the same thing and yes he is correct rebuild or deal with the white cloud. I just tell people must be old gas I need to run through it. Once you get going as you know no more issue.

Thanks for those replies.
It may be the seals like you say--
i stopped at a shop that rebuilds jetskis, and that guy said it's probably check valves in the oil pump.
so is there a way to tell whether it's the seals or the check valves?

It's not the oil check valve. I have seen this problem about ...2000 times...it a 2 stroke and the seals go bad over time.

I suggest you get real SEADOO mechanic and not a general water craft mechanic to look at it. It is cheaper to replace the engine sometimes than try to rebuild it.

Okay, appreciate knowing now that it's the engine.
Guess i'll just keep running the boat for now.

When the time comes to fix it, where can a replacement engine be found?

And what about the price of replacement, just for the engine?

I have replaced car engines before, but don't know if i'd be able to do a jet boat.

Would a manual give me the info i need to be able to change the engine?

You could get a replacement engine from
" www.sbtontheweb.com ".There is a manual in our "Premium Section" that might help out when the time comes.
Heck, I have heard members run their engines for 2 years before it got that bad.
