I found this hole in my exhaust head pipe. What are these circular welded circles for? The hole is on the bottom side of the pipe. Is that supposed to have a hole? I say no

Also update. New battery. Won't crank over. Gonna test solenoid and starter soon.

And replace Grey fuel lines

How do I tell other than my battery not being recharged. If I have a bad stator? It's kinda expensive $150 from OSD Marine.

It's a complex casting. So they seal off the holes with the Tigged plugs. The material they use is too thin! I have the same problem on my two ski's! Really? $720 for a new pipe! I had one repaired for $50. The other ski has all the plugs ready to pop!

The pipe is double walled, in between the walls is how the water keeps the pipe cool. To seal it up they weld the plugs on. If you have a hole the water leaks into the hull and could hinder the cooling process. You have to fix it. As far as the material being too thin? Not really, it's about an 1/8" thick, the ones I make are 3/16" thick. The water just lays there ALL the time on that pipe. You will need to pull the pipe, carefully grind the old plug off and have a new one made and welded back on. I pay $10 a plug to be welded, I supply the plugs to my welder.

Would you just grind them all off and have them all new ones welded in since i have it out. Any other tips? Im going to sand blast it and paint it while i have it out.

Revival of an old thread here. I was thinking if I didn't ground the plugs while doing the compression test, could this be the culprit of my xp not running anymore?

Re-cap: ski ran perfect for month, did compression test (not sure if plugs were grounded....stupid i know) then ski would run and then bog down and quit running.

Thanks for all your help.

I highly highly doubt it. Sounds like you have a fuel issue. I havent read your whole thread but have you been through the fuel delivery system?

no. not yet. I have new fuel lines and I'm thinking about having someone else rebuild the carbs. i dont have any of the "tools" and I dont want to screw it up anymore.

so the ski not running well after compression test has nothing to do with the plugs not being grounded?

I never ground my plugs, always forget lol but that shouldn't be it. CHANGE THE FUEL LINES!!! lol start with the simple stuff and move your way up. Those fuel lines are going to blow your engine if you don't replace them. They wreak havoc, and are simple to change even for a novice. Once you change the lines and do a complete carb rebuild, then move onto bad grounds, fuses, connections etc etc. Don't jump to having a bad stator just yet, try the little things first.

Also, I'd suggest since your compression is 130, to start fogging your engine. Go to any auto parts store and grab a few cans of Fogging spray. It'll help prolong the life hopefully for a little longer. Once you hit 120 or 125, some will say you're gonna wanna start looking a new top end or complete rebuild

Did you get that plug on the exhaust pipe fixed?

Don't let the carbs intimidate you. They are really very simple designs once you open them up. We will walk you through step by step

I did get the plug fixed... Had a friend that welds for a living fix it for $20 bucks and a friend that's a CNC machinist make the plug for free! I could do a quick search but are there any threads out there for my carbs? Thank you for the encouragement! I really appreciate it! I'm not a complete nub when it comes to motors. I swapped the motor on a ford fusion and changed the tranny on my jeep...but I do know xp's are a bit different.

Let me know about a good thread if you know of one off hand. with good pictures (I like pictures..lol)

Thanks again
