Hey guys. Just purchased a 97xp it had two beeps when I bought it. Started right up. Ran nice. Got it home. Two beeps again. Started it. Turned on the hose. Ran for 2 min. Shut the water off shut the motor down. Pulled the key off. Put it back on. And now its not beeping and won't start. Didn't get a chance to look at it yet. But any ideas before I dig in. I have the manual as well for the ski. Thanks in advance guys

Just put a trickle charger on the battery. The guy I got it from put a new one so I'm guessing maybe he didn't charge ot

Also noticed the mpem fuse was blown. I'm gonna tool around with it tomorrow after work and see what else I can find.

Did some more poking around. Battery was charged. and I changed the blown 7.5 fuse on the mpem. Looked at all the connections. I noticed the mpem connection was not fully pushed on. I secured it and got power. Put the key on and got one long beep and no power. I then unplugged the mpem and plugged it back in again. Got power again. Tried to press the start button 5 times and got nothing. Put the lanyard on and got one long beep again. Now to my understanding. One long beep means no communication to the mpem. Does this mean the key isn't coded to the mpem anymore? I have two keys and tried them both.

Yes, one long beep means is sees a key but the key is not programmed to the ski. I did not go back and re-read all of the posts. But, if you have a VTS and it is bad, it is not uncommon for the VTS to pop the fuse in the MPEM. So, if you do have a VTS I would unplug it until you get the running aspect going and then test to see if the VTS works.

Thanks coastijoe. I have unplugged the vts last night. As I had read up on the vts blowing the fuse. I also checked the dess post and it passed. How ever the start stop switch is giving me a reading of .9 ohms when pressed. The manual says it should be close to zero ohms when pressed. Do you suggest this could be the problem in the wiring harness?

It should be close to zero. But,,, if it is still hooked up I would think you could gain some resistance. Is it isolated or still plugged into the wire harness?

Still plugged into the harness. I can't imagine what else it could be other then the key becoming un programmed. I have two keys and both do the same thing. Also if I hit the start button 5 times. I still don't get any power nor beeps to go into the diagnostic mode. I cleaned every connection also. Fuses are all good. It cranks if I jump the starter. And the wiring harness is in great condition. I'm stumped lol

Lets take a step back,,, It did crank, now it doesn't. It did beep twice now it doesn't. If you changed NOTHING, then my thoughts are the MPEM may have gotten damaged when you charged the ski.

So lets try this,,, Jump the solenoid, you will get a few sparks and it should crank. Let us know what happens???

Yes. It was working perfectly fine. Then I shut it down and let it sit for about 2 min with the key on. Then I pulled it off and put it back on and didn't get any beeps. The motor does turn when I jump the solenoid.

Well, I think it is time to send the MPEM and the lanyards to Minnetonka4me. He can test it and re-program the keys. I just pinged him so he may have additional advice that is out of my realm.

Thank you so much. This is my secondary ski that I picked up for my girlfriend to ride. So I wouldn't mind the wait plus it being done right. No one like to go to the dealer lol.

Update!!! So yesterday I took out the mpem and cleaned all the connectors again. Doubled back on the fuses. I'm guessing there was some unseen corrosion on the pins. But she start right up now. I'm just going to go through the carbs and change out the grey tempo lines and hopefully see how she runs next weekend.

I have a similar sort of problem but not sure if I have caused more damage if this is possible from vts , fuse was blown but had a 5 amp in the mpem replaced it with another 5 amp and it popped straight away even without lanyard in , didn't have any 7.5 so popped a 10 amp I. :( and smelled a burn from back behind the vts motor ,ripped the fuse out , but now I get nothing when I put the lanyard on , I have pulled the connectors off the mpem and there is a couple of green pins , so now I don't know if I have cause a lot of damage or whether it is just a coincidence that I haven't got a good contact on the mpem , any ideas

Try unplugging the power to the VTS, it's a black connector with red and black wires, right above the battery. See if you're still blowing fuses.

Lou

I hate to say it but you may have popped the MPEM. You should unplug the VTS as Lou says and clean all the connections but you may be in the market for a used one. Minnetonka4me usually has a good used one, he is a respected parts seller around here.

Yes the fuses don't pop anymore since the burning smell at the back by the vts but when I pop the lanyard on there is no beeps , it seems dead , took the mpem off to inspect the greenish pin but it doesn't look like it has a wire on the corresponding pin on the plug so maybe isn't causing a problem and there are no loose wires so doesn't look like it has corroded and fallen out of the connector block , hmmm

Check the 5amp in the front ebox that one prob blew when the VTS fried. The mpem should be fine after you replace the 5a fuse.

no good yet ! cleaned the connections and put it back together but there is still nothing , think i may have damaged the mpem when i tried the 10amp fuse :( on the vts , just seems strange as the smell came from the back by the vts motor , not the front by the mpem

Oops...should have read this first before I sent you the reply to your PM.

Crazy stuff can happen when you short something out with a fuse bigger than called for. Sometimes it doesnt matter, sometimes it wipes out other stuff in the process. Sounds like you get to learn an expensive lesson unfortunately.
