Anytime you have electrical gremlins on a 97 XP, the very first thing you should do is remove the MPEM, check all pins for corrosion, pop the face plates off the AMP connectors, look at the barrel contacts for any signs of corrosion. Then take a #55 drill bit (.052" diameter) and insert the shank of the bit into each contact to test for firm fit.
The reason you should do all this is because the idiots at BRP thought that putting the MPEM right in the lower front nose of the ski was somehow a good idea. Perscription for water intrusion.
