97 seadoo xp keeps turning over

so i recently got a new starter relay for my 1997 seadoo xp, went to start it after winter and it wants to keep turning over when i am not pushing the starter button, and the lanyard is disconnected? any ideas?

X2 sounds like a stuck solenoid.

I would agree, solenoid stuck..

They are a common failure.

its brand new though, you think its allready bad?

Check the switch circuit, there's a plug at the base of the solenoid, check and see if it's shorted, if it is check the start switch and the start relay. I would suspect the switch over the relay.

If it is not stuck, then the power feed is on all the time. As in, stuck start switch.

If you remove the small wire that activates the solenoid what happens?

I just looked up your wiring schematic.

You should have four-wires at the solenoid. Two large red wires that go from the battery and the starter. One smaller Black wire which looks to be grounded through the ECM. And one yellow wire with a red stripe. The yellow wire is what gives the solenoid power which then allows the internal plate to close and provide direct power from the battery to the starter.

To ensure it is not the solenoid, remove the yellow wire while it is cranking. If it stops, it is the start/stop switch or the yellow wire is getting 12v positive somehow from a shorted wire.

I'm guessing removing the wire will NOT stop the cranking. Which will prove it is a stuck solenoid.
