Ive tried a bunch of different aftermarket ones and have found that all of them are using the same raw parts. I have found zero difference except some dont come with some parts, that and the price.

Its so weird b/c its not like denso isnt in business still, but it seems they only sell parts to authorized repair guys.

Since we all seem to be in agreement on wanting true OEM kits, I will do a little more research; I have one place locally who will be able to give me the low down.

Now to the OP, if your magnets are cracked it sounds like you need a replacement. Count the teeth, it should be a 8 tooth.

Ok I am going to check with my seadoo agent today to see if they have any oem starter units or parts for them.

The thing that sucks about being down in NZ is the shipping... parts are SO cheap on ebay but the shipping is expensive and take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Oh well at least I live by this park/boat ramp...

and this beach...

That is the exact noise my GSX makes if the battery is low. Did you get your battery load tested before you rebuild the starter?

Yeah I tried to start it with a known good battery.

And nope Lou that is Mt Maunganui beach in my hometown Tauranga. 90 mile beach is up north on the west coast, it's quite rugged and raw up there but beautiful. And it's not actually 90 miles long lol not sure how it got that name!

Ok one of the main magnets has sheared off the starter the inside of the starter casing. New starter motor it is! I'm gonna go with an ebay one as its my only real option at this stage. Seadoo ones were crazy money.

Be prepared for a scolding on here! The chinese starters have a bad reputation and are known to snap on the first start.

Anything but OEM is normally short lived when it comes to Seadoo's.

Better off to rebuild an OEM used starter than buy an foreign junk new starter.

Just one if those things out skis virtually require to be OEM.

Yup good luck with that. Luckily for you your machine has the 8 tooth starter which is what most of the generic starters use.

Highly recommend buying a used OEM starter and a rebuild kit. Or...you can buy one rebuilt and ready to go from a guy like me.

I sent you a PM a couple of days ago asking about an OEM starter but never heard back... I just check my sent items and there is nothing in there! So who knows what happened to that. Im screwed now anyway as the ebay one has shipped.

Here's an idea though. Check out this photo of my broken one. Would the casing of the new starter (which has main magnets attached) fit on the OEM one? Then I could repair the OEM one that way and be back to having a good quality starter :-)

You might be able to... And looking in the background, your brushes look to be in very good condition. If the aftermarket case fits the OEM brush cap, I would say, go for it.

Ok i got the starter motor from ebay and took it to the auto electrcian. He used the casing from the new one and put it onto the old one, sealed it up and boom it works like a charm!

Engine now turns over fine and starts up beautifully! Thanks for everyones help. I needed this moral boost as my 93 XP just crapped itself and has probably broken a rod :puke:

The GSX is idling quite high though... In saying that we ran it for less than 30 seconds so it may have just been warming up??

Does the RPM gauge work, it should be idling at 1500 rpm in the water and 3000 rpm out of the water.
