Been at the lake the last couple of days. No problems except the LED battery light in the multifunction gauge stays on. I don't think there's a problem with the ski, it just bugs me to see the light stay on.

I just got back put the battery back on the battery tender, it took less than 10 mins. for the battery to return to a normal state.

Here's what I do know the battery reads 13.79 volts with no load, with a load 11.91 volts. So I don't think it's the battery, I also don't think it's the voltage regulator because the battery was almost fully charged and I've had absolutely no problems starting the ski.

I guess I could do the Appalachian Technician trick and put a piece of black tape over the LED, but I would rather not.

I have a wiring diagram but I haven't been able to figure it out, anyone have any ideas.

when u rev it, this is when its around 3500, or so, its probably ok, early in year, over 14 means its chargin, check all your grounds, and run it some, then use duct tape, black tape in the sun, dont work good

When I checked I was running at around 3000 rpm, out of water. I'll check the grounds but I don't think that's it either. I'll wait for someone to chime in, I might get a new voltage regulator, I don't have an extra for a 717.

I'm not gonna use duct tape this is a SeaDoo not a Chrysler.

Hi Jeff,

I couldn't find any matching duct tape so I bought camo. Now I can't even find the ski, I think it's somewhere in the garage.

I switched out the battery from another ski, no change. So I ordered a rectifier, found one on EBay for 14.00 shipped. If that fixes it I'll order a new one.

I got a new rectifier and I still have the light on. The wiring diagram that I have is really bad, there's not one in the manual I found one elsewhere and it doesn't even show the battery light. I really don't think there's anything wrong with the ski, I just can't get the stupid light to turn off. Anybody got any ideas?

Lou

Sorry I missed this one.

The Red-Purple wire should be the battery wire. It needs to see 12v for the light to be off. So... stick a pin though the wire, close to the gauge... and check it with a meter. If you get battery voltage at that wire, then the gauge is bad. If you don't... find the bad connection. I'm guessing the wire broke where they come into the hood.

Have you checked the wiring or voltage at the gauge? Does the mpem control the light or is it in the gauge?

Tony, The red/purple wire is 12v. all the time, lanyard on, lanyard off, running, it stays hot. So does this mean it's the gauge?

Striz, From the wiring diagram that I have I really can't tell, but I would guess it's in the gauge.

Lou

Yep.

That's the "Hot" wire from the battery. There is a fuse in it... but it should be hot all the time. If you are seeing power on it, way up at the gauge... then the gauge itself may be bad.

I'm happy to report the problem is fixed, it was a bad gauge, thanks to everybody who helped.
