you blast your carbs ?

i've never tried that, always thought i'd get media in places I don't want it...

Making block off plates to seal them then I'll put vacuum port caps over the inlets and blast from a distance. I also have a super soft media I can put in. But I just need to clean the blaster, it's a big industrial unit, like this one--no joke. Same brand and everything, just from the 80's and it looks almost identical to that . But the clean out will take a bit more than an hour. Never blasted a carb before, first time for everything, right?

I'd be down with that, there was just a super clean yellow one on Ebay---I mean CLEAN. Just trying to stay on a short leash with the ducketts right now. I spent a while on the thread the other day, it looks good! I need to sell some stuff to pump up my Paypal, that's like my disposable income, so I don't take from the house money.

Ebay=disposable income lol. If it werent for ebay i would still be rockin a 94 xp. Actually i use to sell vintage video games. Original nintendo stuff, i sold some games and used it to get my first seadoo, that was maybe in 2004 and have just been upgrading and adding more and more. Just got a 97 xp a week ago for $300 the body is mint, i dont need to even buff it, just need to hit up doc for some decals and change all the fuel and oil lines out. I dont know if i want to sell it or keep it. Seems like everyone we do i end up wanting to keep it. I feel like a hoarder. We have 1 96 gsx 1 98 spx 1 97 xp in my driveway, 2 96 gsx 1 97 gsi and 1 95xp at my business partners house, 2 96 xp at the dealer and 1 95 spx converted to a 720 at the shop thats just the complete ones. Weve parted at least 8 out this summer and have a garage and basement full of parts. These things are addicting. Between this forum and craigslist, im amazed i sleep lol. To take 4 of them out for a good ride its like $200 in gas and $100 in oil so we just need to sell a pump and set of carbs and its free. Gotta love ebay, damn seller fees have increased alot in the last couple years, i still cant believe they even take 12% of shipping between the 9% of ebay and 3% of paypal. Thats why selling on here would be nice but tonkas got this market locked down lol.

Perhaps I could talk the Mrs. into taking the kids to Disney(already know they would help me sell that deal). Oh and to save on air fare we can drive down(towing the XP, juuuuust in case);)

If you head to Florida, let me know. Disney is about 35 minutes from us.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'm on the way to Disney so stop by and let's dunk that thing in the lake! Also XXX, one way to beef up your paypal is to send us those block off plates. I do understand time spent on that would push the real project back.

Jetskigoodies- I've seen you on here but didn't know how similar our years have been. I've also gone ski crazy this year and am sitting now in a similar position. Tonka's got the used parts thing wrapped up but he honestly deserves it for honest prices and super service. I refuse to offer parts many times out of respect but maybe he could put us on an alternate list if he is out of something. I'm sure not jealous of always being on call to the world. I do also shop Ebay and Craigslist every single day and my yard (and finances) show it.

Well crap....giving y'all the seadoo sickness has backfired on me! LOL

I bought my first seadoo in 01, parted my 1st ski in 05, and went full time in 10.

I appreciate you guys holding off being its side money. Its feed my family money and the winter is pretty lean in the jetski world over the winter....but it isnt my site and I know I'm not the only parts guy out there. You may not know as much, but as long as you are honest with customers and help get people hooked...vs. screwing people and giving them a "bad taste" of the sport; by all means go for it.

The one thing I ask is dont give away parts. Meaning that if you dont have a feel for what a part is worth, search ebay and try to figure it out. Theres nothing worse than people who buy a machine for $100 and give away parts for pennies on the dollar b/c they only have $100 in it and its "fun money" to them. There's nothing wrong with being the cheapest, just dont sell a $200 part for $50....that hurts the whole industry. Thats what has happened with the kawi parts in the last few years. I had to quit buying them.

Lastly....PLEASE dont part out super nice hulls. Yes...every once in a while it just has to happen, but for the most part I get them going. There's enough turds out there to keep the nice ones on the water.

Its funny you bring up selling NES stuff JSG...back in 03-04 I was in full "addict" mode buying up NES, SNES, Gameboy stuff. I prob bought a few from you! Im building a "media room" in the addition just to display it all...350+nes, 150 snes, 100gb, Nintendo power 1-150...hell I even cleaned the contacts with de-ox on every one of them!! Unfortunately the Wii really killed the value being you can download any old game you want...

Thanks for the offers guys! I have a sneaking suspicion that we will be going back to St. Maarten again. My sister in law lives there so basically it's airfare to get there and the rest is taken care of(lodging and transport). We went last April and it was dynamite!

As far as beefing up the paypal with the block offs---I would but ONE guy Pm'd me about them---YOU, that's it. So if 3-4 more guys want them PM me and I'll have them cut. But since the feedback on them was a low turnout I haven't proceeded. If you want me to saw cut you a set I will and we can work on a price. I really don't want to have parts made and they sit in my shop and don't get used, or used for something else.

You did an awesome job restoring that. I was wondering if you updated the fuel tank before you put the motor back in? Seadoo has a recall on those tanks. I dont know if you were aware of the recall, the neck of the tank splits and a few people have actually blown the seat right off the machine while starting them. I am taking 2 xps to a stealership today to get them swapped out. A new tank inside that hull and it will like it did in 1996.

Guess who's getting a NEW fuel tank bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be in in a week and a half. Thanks again JSG!

I sold my nes collection for 6k but i had alot, over 300 games but most had boxes, coves, instructions and whatever poster came with it no doubles Had most the hard to get games, bubble bobble 2, contra force,Baseball stars fintstones, etc. Power glove, Nes101 top loader, advantage pads, nes maxs, rob everything had the boxes and styrofoam i had all the tengen games, had the famicon convertors 72 pin too 60. It was getting ridiculous. I was buying big lots and keeping whatever i didnt have and selling the rest, i would replace the pin connectors in the consoles and sell them. I would use an eraser to get the crud off the pins and then clean the connectors with wynel, i metal cleaner. Its funny at garage sales people would almost give them away. Whenever people thought they were broken i would replace the pin connector for $8 and no more blinking or blue screen. If i would have sold individually i would have got more but cataloging it and listing it would have taken forever.

Good now rep it up. Lol enjoy the new blueish tank. Im picking mine up this week. Im taking the gsx's in to get new tanks as soon as thes xp's come back

Engine tear down

Very sad looking for sure. Everything will be new using OEM parts only. Reman BRP Crank, Pistons, Rave Valves, Rave housings, Rotary valve, Seals and gaskets. Added the oil fill and drain. What's so amazing is the bores were flawless, so I measured them and they are in spec and still had the hatch marks, so they just got the dingle-berry hone ran through them. All the engine parts got bead blasted to raw aluminum. The Magneto and stator, SMOKED. Scored some good used one that are like new. Crusty Flywheel, all fixed. I used Evapo-Rust, dunked it in for a few days and it eats the rust, then I bead blasted it, then painted it. About a cup of corrosion came out of the starter hole-nasty. Broke almost every screw on the MAG cover and three days of constant spraying it to penetrate the crud. It has been a ton of work to get to this point, but the pay off will be awesome.

Crusty flywheel and Magneto

After the Evaop-Rust treatment

Here's a half dip so you can see how well it works--no, I'm not using that mag, you can see the new one.
Thanks for the info on evaporust. Ive bought 2 gallons from harbor freight since reading this post a couple weeks ago, this stuff is the awesome

You guys get all the good products over there! just googled it here and not so easy to get, plus really expensive.
Did you reuse those pistons in the first pic ? your engine pics look exactly like mine. Pistons , stator ,flywheel everything ! could be the twin engine .

On some stuff yes on others no. As far as the pistons, nope I went all new. Scored them on Ebay for just a tad more then the price of one from the dealer. Bought a new front cover, stator and Mag off Ebay for next to nothing.

Did you get this to greet you when you took the starter out! I know this will make some guys cringe!!!!!!

All CARB diet today!

Made a block off for the flame-arrestor side of the carb, I already had the one from the block off kit for the R/V cover. A little tape here and there and they got the blast. I'd say everything worked out great. Now, that being said I am fully disassembling them cleaning and greasing, and painting them. So if your not going to go to this extent, then bead blasting them is not for you. The linkages still work smooth but I can see some glass beads in the springs that have to get out. Let the rebuilds begin.

Lol yes but not as much as that . Lots of my water channels are clogged with a substance that looks like paraffin wAx , I guess it must be salt , is that usual ?

Racer, how much do you want for a full set of block off plates, motor and carb kit? Im interested

I can do the standard block off kit for $65 PLUS shipping so if you want the carb block off I'd say $75. What you would do is use one of the R/V cover block offs and I'd supply you ONE plate for the other side of the carb. So you only blast one carb at a time. These kits will also not include the hardware. I can give you the sizes needed and you can go to Lowe's and get it. If I added the hardware to the kit it would be too pricey. I'd also assist in making sure you build a correct set-up. Let me know what you think, send me a PM if you'd like.

Here's the orig post to the kits:

Well it sounds like you've got at least two of us. I want to add the carb plate also.

If I don't hit the 4-5 I'd like, I'll make you guys ones like mine. Down and dirty, cut on the bandsaw and drilled on the drill press and we can probably work on the price.

When you bust those carbs open, if there is a lot of rust and corrosion from that old gas i use this to clean it out, the brass attachment work great for the little grooves and indents.

This kit has everything in it but i just bought the extra 10 peice brass set one imparticuliar worked the best it was like a fine tip paint brush you can see it in the bottom row 5th attachment to the left

You will be amazed on how much these help

I looked too JSG...I cant find that 10pc kit on their website but thats what I've been using for 2 years now. SOOO good. They had some Stainless ones the last time I was there and they work even better!!

Racer....I am also in on the block off kit. I actually have some very nice rubber gaskets, but I'd like your block-offs so I dont have to use a manifold.
