That was my first shot. LOL I thought it was a little strange to use a degreaser in the carbs. I just want something that is carb safe...something mild. I got heat and sonics that's gotta be better than the gallon can of carb cleaner. :) Ski should be ready to rock so..... for my final tests the intake system needs to be fully assembled.

I’ve heard several people say they use the regular Simple Green, but it will eat at aluminum over time, so I don’t like the idea of using on carbs. At the very least, I would dip the whole carb body in gasoline or something when done so that all of that caustic stuff doesn’t just sit in it. A better alternative would be the Simple Green Extreme that’s actually made to be aluminum safe.

Be very careful, most of the normal degreasers like purple power, super clean, and the regular simple green are not aluminum safe... Look for aircraft degreasers which tend to be made for aluminum.

I bought some aircraft safe cleaner as you suggested. Excellent point !!

Initially, I rebuilt these carbs last year. The carburetors were not doing well top end and needed 1-1/2 turns out and it was still breaking up a wee bit on top end. so I opted to clean and rebuild. I used the ultra sonic with the degreaser (with the results I mentioned black crap everywhere). This week I went out and had a heck of a lot of power on low end and it slightly improved up top but not much. I opened the high speeds 1/2 turn and the ski still had trouble. Unacceptable performance. So I decided to rebuild a different set of carbs for the ski yesterday. eliminating any issues with the carbs.

I lowered the pop-off from 36psi to 30 to give it more fuel. I already did the entire fuel system which I pressure test for leaks. The guy I bought the skis from mentioned that he really wanted to see how the ski ran with that engine because it was a really good one. You never know what's in there. LOL I'll post up the results today and if it needs more fuel... it's getting rejetted accordingly. I'm not arguing with it. :D:D

Zowie.... slightly different power but ski still does the same thing basically. Completely different set of carbs and applying choke does not help. I dunno... might be an electrical issue. I did get it up to 50mph. Starts great.... The search is afoot. :)

Got another mile an hour out of it. 56 on the GPS... that's really cool !! Ski still can't hold full throttle for long. When I get R did I'm gonna pose like this... I don't know if this pose irks my wife or turns her on. When I finish a ski I ask her, "Wanna touch it? You can touch it." :D

Boy O Boy.... that XP is undaunted when it comes to kicking my azz. Put a new coil in there just for kicks. I'm now absolutely positive it is FUEL. Only thing I have not replaced is the pulse line which sure could be the issue. I'm gonna find some more stiff hose material. Ski does 45 mph without a hitch but after a few minutes I can hear and feel the ski pick up speed with a constant power setting. I know the sound of a two stroke leaning out and that's what it's doing. I've done everything to this ski and fuel system and all the checks I can easily do. I'm gonna change out the pulse line that I replaced. It looks good and it is pulsing but..... you never know at speed what's going on.

I can blast off up to 55mph for about 30-40 seconds then..... whups... shut down an go 30-35 maybe slower. Plugs look nice and brown for some strange reason. Oh this is gonna be good.

I posted my findings in it's own thread Labled... DUDE !! Long story short. Don't use a coffee filter screen on the bottom off the fuel baffle. This beyotch should be DONE !!!! Yeeehaaaa !!! So Officially !!!!Great Gene.jpg
