Just kidding.

While dropping in my latest engine, I noticed the oil pull cable was 90% cut. (After a nice piece slit it's way into my thumb).

Serves me right I suppose for using a SBT one for $100...

Ordered a OEM one for $140.

The SBT one didn't last 2 years, and would have destroyed my engine!

I can't win lately... Seems I'm always waiting for parts.

Funny you mention that Sabr... i had an oil pump cable go out on me in the spring... '98 style from carb to the pump. Luckily i had a spare!

Fortunately when the cable fails, the oil pump goes to MAX oil flow, so it will smoke a lot, but wont kill it!

not always, if the cable is frayed and breaks on the carb end, and won't slide through the sheathing, it'll open part way but not all the way, then you don't get enough oil at WOT and lunch the whole thing

That 2000 XP I just dropped the new motor in I noticed the same thing....The oil pump cable was slightly frayed. when you go WOT the frayed cable gets stuck and the oil pump stays at full. Not sure if the cable is OEM or aftermarket on mine

I'll see if I can't get a pic. I'm also having difficulty determining if mine is SBT or OEM. I bought it approx 2 years ago.

I'll get pics when I take it out tonight, or soon.

I'm debating finishing the engine install (pipe and carbs left) or just wait to get the cable... I've done the cable before w/the engine all in, but it's still easier w/out the pipe in the way.

SO much room w/out a pipe on these things lol.

Mine was frayed where the end of the cable meets the 'metal tab' basically there was 10-25% of the cable left holding it...

Every seadoo cable I have seen has the part number inked on and either USA or MADE IN USA on them, pretty sure SBT is not going to add that cost to their cable.

I'd venture to bet it's sbt, especially if you remember it being $100

Ain't no one got time for dat.

Combined with the fact that we take 100+ mile runs. I can't ask for premix at the pump...

Just snapped a pic of my cable. Mine gets stuck at wot but with the vibration of the motor it comes back down. I have premix in it now since I just dropped the new motor in it now. Going to get it wet for the first time tomorrow to see how this SES motor does.

You're trusting your new engine with a crapped out frayed cable? Why not replace it

I have premix in the tank now. I have run it on the trailer a few different times and payed close attention to it. Only sticks sometimes at wot but pops right back down. Have a cable ordered.

^^ FYI not running it wot on trailer. Never stuck when running it on trailer and snapping the throttle. Just when unit is off

My cable had two threads broken in spring.
It looks like pretty common :-)
I haven't changed it yet. But I cleaned up the broken threads to make sure when it's broken it won't stuck.

Yea it could be a pain in the ass with a long ride...99% of the time I ride I don't burn thru a full tank and if I want to I have the truck within riding distance...but you could always just keep a couple measured out contatiners of oil with you to mix in when you fuel up on the go.
I just like the idea of pre mixing anyway to save the motor incase of the random failure of a little cable or rubber hose/grommet.
