My 95 xp 717 - Starter is spinning, but I hear no "click" and engine obviously doesn't turn over. I'm assuming the Bendix isn't engaging.

I'm going to pull the starter out today and bench test it. I'm assuming I'll be ordering a new starter.

Is there anything else I should be looking for? It was starting up flawlessly on the water 15 minutes earlier.

Any opinions on an aftermarket starter such as this?

Thanks!

The bendinx is probably worn out. Just replace the bendix, especially if your starter is the original; one. Almost all aftermarket Chinese starters are 100% junk. You're better off rebuilding yours or buying a good used one.

Your Amazon starter is junk, sorry.

Just pulled the starter, and the shaft is literally sheared off completely. Came out in a separate piece from the starter itself.

Am I better off with a used eBay Starter? I don't believe it is the original starter, I think I replaced it, probably 10 years ago.

I would go used OEM, what you are seeing now is what is going to happen to a new aftermarket starter.

I'd throw my money at this, but please make you're own judgement.

Just count your teeth on the bendix, should be the same and the 2 mounting holes should be clearanced on your starter with just 1 tapped hole for the ground cable
