Weather in the Pacific NW finally got nice enough to pull the skis (95 XP & 95 HX) out of the garage and prepped to play. Go to put the battery back into the XP and notice the hull has an inch or so of oil in it. Crap! Hose must have started to leak. Will chase it down later. Go to fire off the engine, but just get a "chunk". Damn cheap year old battery! Try to jump it, but still get a "chunk". Figure I'd pull the plugs to release the compression and see how it's turning over. Pull the plugs, hit the starter, and I get two fountains of oil shooting out of the plug holes, covering both machines with oil. WTF????? I can see having a leak outside the engine or an internal leak, but both? What would cause this? Assumine a seal went bad, but an idea which would cause both leaks?

Seal

it's the roatary valve seal that leaks into the crankcase while siting.. I just bought a 95 GTS that sat for 8 years.. All the oil had leaked into the engine.. I cleaned it out (turned it over to get the oil out) then let it sit for 24 hours turned it over again to be sure it was clean.. Once it was cleaned out it started up without a problem.. You will need to keep an eye on it, but you should be ok for the season. the seal may fix them selves a little after running and damper the problem. It's a major engine overhaul to repair.. It is going to smoke and spit some pretty ugly crap out of the motor so be sure your out side when you do it!!

Was thinking it was that seal, but how would it be able to drain the oil tank and leak oil outside of the engine, into the hull? I realize that gravity would pull in down to the engine, but is that how the rotary valve is lubricated?

Man, the neighbors are gonna hate me when I get this thing to fire up. Better wait for a good breeze.

Smoke

I am not sure how it got out, maybe the carb?? I had mine near the door to my shop, it was a dumb move to say the least.. I only let it run for two minutes and the entire place was filled..

Oil pumping

My 1996 Speedster worked 100 % last week yet yesterday it sucked all the oil from oil tank through and into the right engine in about 5 minutes of running. Yikes! I had oil in the hull but that was from it pumping throught the carb and out through the air cleanercover. I pulled the air cleaner off and there was oil right up to the choke butterflies.

help

so what is the real fix for this i just bought a 95 xp and started it up smoked pretty bad but ran well then after shutting it off out the exhaust came oil just pouring out what do i need to do to properly fix this what part or parts are the problem? please help. thanks

I finally managed to fire it up yesterday after cranking the engine over & over, letting the starter cool in between, until one of the cylinders stopped spraying enough oil to keep from fouling the plug. Put the plug in it and managed to start it on one cylinder, with the plug out of the second. Revved a couple times, then shut it down and stuck in the other plug. Got her to fire and ran it till the smoke was down to a minimum. Damn, that sure kicked out a cloud of smoke!

Filled the tank 1/2 way up again and will watch it a couple of days for the level. Hoping to get it on the water Monday for a test ride. Hoping it was just a slow leak over the winter on a slightly worn seal. There was still a quarter tank of oil in it, so it didn't drain completely. Guess I'll find out soon.
