Hello guys,

I tried to start my sportster this morning, and this is how it sounds, doesnt sound good....

I charged the battery the whole night, and I sprayed some Seadoo Fogging Oil in the holes 3 months ago, and I sprayed some more last night, and some more this morning before trying to start it, I heard a big "clunk", man that wasnt good, I hope I didnt break anything in there... Then, this is the only thing I get.

Maybe it could be the battery is really dead?

Any ideas, thanks in advance..

Well the battery is cranking it. If in doubt take the battery to auto parts store for a free Load test. I didn't hear a clunking sound.

I assume you didn't expect it to start since the plugs are out. :)
Does it crank with the plugs installed?....if not then the battery is probably dead.

ya, i'd like to hear it again with the plugs in :)
is the battery showing a full charge ? can you put a meter on it ?
(or lick it, that usually works)

ps.. don't lick it please...

LOL, that would take a mighty (Mick Jagger) long tongue to do that,, unless 2 cables are attached to the battery. I've tested 9volt household batteries that way...not that much of a shock :)

yea mine won't start without spark plugs either, they are funny that way. if it just goes CLUNK with the plugs in when you press the start button, I'll pretty much guarantee it's the battery. I heard that CLUNK about 100 times before I got rid of mu damn walmart batteries.

Thanks, guys,

What I meant is that I heard the big clunk the first time I pressed the start button with battery recharged....

How does it sound to you guys right now?

Hey guys! I got it to work! I got the old battery at Sams Club, last September and they replaced it free of charge today, however I took a BIGGER FATTER BATTERY (LOL), is this ok?

It doesnt fit in the battery well, I have to play with the fastener to get it tight in there.. do you think it would be a problem, I think its a 675 instead of a 550, please let me know if its going to hurt the sportster?

here is a video with it finally turning on!

Knowing sam's club they take the lowest bidder on batteries so I would exchange it every year.

You must make sure that bigger battery is tied down tight and secure...a couple big wakes will toss that baby around and do some damage.

Oh oh, I was thinking of buying some extra straps (here I go with straps again), also a couple of zip ties all around? (sounds really good lol)...

Or do you think I should just get the actual battery size, the only problem is that they have date stamps on the others, the 550's have date stamps as far back as 1/2010??

The one I got says 3/2012, so it was the newest of the bunch... umm maybe zip ties and a extra strap will be better...

i can't speak for the battery itself, but ya, extra zippies or a small ratchet strap would do the trick, a couple of good bungies maybe.

sorry about the lick it joke,i suggested that to somebody once and he was going to do it, "its only 12v and i've done it with 9v" before I stopped him... (not sure what it would do but i don't want to find out lol)
