95 GTX fuel gauge not working.

OK so I decided to fix my fuel gauge today and I took it out of the ski. Out of the ski I tipped the fuel baffle upside down and hit the start button twice and the fuel gauge showed full. I then repeated the process with the float in different locations in the baffle, and the gauge showed different fuel levels. So I took the float out thinking its full of fuel and not floating. I put the float in the sink with water in it and it floats. So I put everything back in the fuel tank and hit the start button again and it shows that the ski is empty. I looked in the tank threw the filler hose connection on the tank and can see that the pickup is in the fuel and about 1/8th of the way up the pickup.

Can someone tell me what the problem here might be. If the float, floats, and its able to move, and it registers when out of the tank, then why does it not when in the skis tank.

Never mind, I put the float into some gas and it sank like a stone. Odd thing is, is the float is not plastic. Its something very porous and kinda soft that i can scratch it with my fingernail. Guess i will buy a new one.

When you get a new float, get the new style molded type. It will work fine in your ski. Here's a link.

To test it correctly like you did the second time you need to float it in gas. The first time it floated because it was "gasy" and gas is lighter than water.
I had the same problem a when i bought the used GTX and we tested it with a meter first to see if it would register - it did so I bought a float.

So went to the dealer and they had one. Put it in and wow, my fuel gauge works. Now to get the grey lines out of the damn thing. I took the fuel selector valve off and tried to blow threw it and could feel restriction. Dipped the valve in some Zep Top solve and then hit it with the air compressor and wow easy pesy to blow threw.

YES, I did the same last week. After I blew though it, it moved so easy I thought I left something off.
