I have pulled my 787 engine out of my 1996 XP and I am going to have the engine rebuilt. Number one cylinder is blown. The compression was down to 40 PSI, and now that I have seen the inside I understand why. So my question is what should I be doing with the rest of the ski now that the engine is out for a complete rebuild? Side note: I will be shipping it out to Fullbore to have them do the rebuild.

Things I have already done with this ski:

Replaced the impeller with a Solas
Replaced the spark arrestor with K&N system
Replaced the choke with a Primer kit
Replaced the intake grate
Replaced the foot treads

So I have some money invested in this ski. What should I do now???

Replace the fuel lines if you have the grey tempo lines.. might as well replace fuel selector as well, cheap and smart. Also clean or replace water separator... honestly just go through the entire fuel system. Clean the hull since the motor is out, some people paint the inside with some really cool stuff. It's just an all around excellent opportunity to do all the little things that are a PITA when the engine is in, so just give the whole thing a couple once overs, you'll spot a few things to fix I'm sure

Thanks for the response. I have already replaced the grey fuel lines, but you are right I will have an opportunity to clean up all the oil I have spilled over the years. And yes, your probable right there will be some unknown problem I will find to take care of while I have the engine out.

Clean, clean and clean some more. You will never have the access that you have right now. The gas tank is also under a recall and a dealer will replace your tank for free.

Along the lines that Adam might have been thinking... I would try to figure out why the motor let go. Dont want to kill your new motor.

Then, with the motor out and if you pull the fuel tank, I would turn it upside down and detail out the bottom if it needs repair or a good buffing. You won't have a chance to do that again.

If you haven't already done so when you replaced the impeller, you might want to rebuild the pump. For 100-125 you can rebuild the entire pump including bearings, seals and a new impeller shaft.

Also there's really no advantage replacing the stock air intake system, in fact if you ever flip the ski you'll wish you had the stock system.

Yes the carbs were re-jetted and last year before I blow it up I just had the carbs cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets and all, so I was a little upset when the compression in the number one cylinder drop like a rock to 40 PSI. The number two cylinder had at that time 160 PSI.

Is there really a recall on the fuel tanks for the 1996 Seadoo XP? If so, do you have link or a thread with more information about it? I checked online at BPR.com but could not find anything specific to the 1996 XP.

yes.
I think (from what i've read) you just call the dealer with your HIN handy and they can tell you the status on your ski, if there is a recall, and if its been done.
also 2nd the suggestion to clean clean clean, absolutely no better time to get it spotless than right now.

purple power / super clean are both good options, a scrub brush / pressure washer will give you dramatic results.

I had to drop off the seadoos that were getting the tanks replaced. The neck of the tank will crack, then the fumes will leak into the hull and when you go to start it, the spark from the starter can ignite the fumes.

+1 on the tanks, mine is due but the closest dealer is 2 hours away and they said they have to have the ski and replace it. I tried to get them to just order an new one and take them mine so I didn't have to trailer the ski but they would not do it.

if your wanting to put on aftermarket sponsons now is easier bc you have more room for your head inside the hull lol

Me too, but I had to keep it quiet. My 16 year old son was in the room and I did not him to ask what is so funny!
