I pulled a 717 engine from an 94 XP and put in my 95 GTX with a 657X. The problem I'm having is the engine won't align up with the alignment tool with out 1" stack of spacers. I tried to use the original support plate but the mounting bolt spacing 0n the 717 is wider than the 657X. Every thing I have read says the 657X & 717 are the same. Maybe the engine isn't what the Tag says it is. The XP was fully operational just didn't have a title. The GTX was operational until it sank.

If you can get it to line up with using a spacer... then do it. I would recommend using "Body Washers" to help support the engine plate. (big OD, small ID)

With that said... the bottom engine plates should be compatible. Also... I would be suspect of either a bent engine plate, or alignment tool plate.

the 717 didn't originally come with the 94 xp, it should have had a 657 motor, so someone has swapped it out.

also, I recall there was a pump wedge that changed the angle of the driveshaft on those models, that sounds like your problem for misalignment.

Thanks!! yes it does. So the pump wedge explains the alignment but that still doesn't explain the bolt spacing on the engine to plate. I'll have to investigate the engines closer. Yes, Dr Honda, I used "Body Washers". I also used varying thicknesses measured with calipers. I don't like how high the support plate is from the rubber mount. I thought of using some hard wood between the rubber mounts and the haul. I don't know how much stress the bolt holes for the rubber mount can handle.
