3d newbie engine help!

Hi all,

I am a newbie to the site and was reading through the seadoo 3d threads and have yet to find anything on a grinding noise from the engine. I hope you don't mind me asking what you think is up w/ my ski....I just recently purchased this 05 3d from Florida and despite a bad battery the ski was in great shape and have had no problems with it. Yesterday, I ran the ski in the water for a few hours and in mid run the ski kicked back and stopped. I heard this grinding noise coming from the engine and decided to kill it. When I started it back up same noise but with no power or response from the throttle. When I got the ski on land I took a look at the engine compartment and noticed metal pieces. I am worried I blew the engine. (I can't have a mechanic look at it until Monday) What do you think went wrong? Thanks for your time and help!

it sounds like you've snapped a rod and its came threw your block might be time for a new engine as seeing metal pieces in your hull is never a good sign

Yep...thats what I was afraid of. On a side note, I know the 05 3d ski has a rotax 787cc engine, can it take a bigger cc? Thanks for your help.

you could fit the 951cc in thats whats in mine but if you go that route you'll have to change everthing else in you ski from mpem elecs to fuel tank (very expensive) so wouldnt be worth it stick with the same engine coz then its just a straight swap over try sbt for a recon engine as you can get up to 2 years warranty so well worth the money

he could get a 951 motor, and install the 787 flywheel and mag cup, then he could run his electronics...but doing the conversion be tuff...glassing in the front mount to the other side, making the exhaust work/fit...etc

didnt know that but would be good to see pics of someone whos has done that but my ski is the di model and knew you would have to change everything to make that work
