The 300 and 260 Sea-Doo PWC come with several limiters, including a speed limiter. The first thing needed in order to unlock the most potential of the Sea-Doo 300 is an ECU Reflash. This tuning bundle will take care of that:
http://www.pwcmuscle.com/sea-doo-4tec-v-tech-xtune-bundle.html A stock RXP-X 300 with nothing but a ECU reflash should run around 78 in fresh water and 70 degree temperatures, with the VTS setting all the way up. Salt water will decrease speed typically by about 1-1.5 MPH and warmer air, warmer water, higher humidity, higher elevation all play a role in performance on these machines.
Back-to-back testing of the R&D Intake Grate for the RXP-X T3 yielded a 0.5 MPH gain at approximately 30-40 RPM less. If the pump was adjusted to get the RPM back up, the gain would likely be closer to 1 MPH. Still a far cry from the 3 MPH that R&D advertises. Maybe the bigger pump impeller is part of the reason the RXP-X 300 doesn't get the same gains as the RXP-X 260. I don't think many people are getting 3 MPH from the grate on the 260 either though...
Testing was done in controlled conditions and runs were made in both directions, with the VTS trim setting in the same position for every run.
R&D's product description: "Aquavein will enhance the X beast. Blow through low and high-speed turns with confidence and chew up rough water conditions with a new found 3mph top speed gain. Quicker acceleration and straight-line stability are also maximized. The new X SEADOO, equipped with an R&D Aquavein cracks the glass on the fun meter! Fits all SEADOO RXP-X 260 with T3 Hull"
