Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help me out.

I purchased my jetski second hand last june with 4 hours on it, was like brand new,

Used it a handful of times over the summer.

Put into a garage between september and March, (didn't unplug Battery)

Started using for the last 6 weeks 2 or 3 times a week about 45 min a time. no problems.

Last used on Saturday, washed it after flushed it ect.

Gone to use it yesterday, pressed the red button, nothing, no dash, no beeps no nothing, seems completely dead,

assumed it was the battery, took it out and had it tested they have said there is nothing wrong with it.

Any ideas what i can check before i take it to my local dealer :-(

Thanks

Charlie

I would have the battery checked again. Your dash should turn on if the electrical system is fine. I just checked the troubleshooting section of the manual and that scenario isn't listed at all.

it was checked at Halfords and by my local Seadoo dealer. they said to check the fuses and if they look ok, then it would need to goto them :(

doesn't sound like a key or post issue. on the newer ones with IBR, you press the red start button first, with the key more than 6" away from the post, which wakes up the ECU, then you put the key on and it should be ready to start. if you put the lanyard on first, it won't start but should wake up the ECU.

I assume you tried putting the key on as well. Have you checked all the fuses in the fuse box above the battery AND the main inline 30A fuse that powers everything? Just follow the red wire from the battery to the solenoid and then you'll see a smaller wire that comes off the solenoid which powers everything and the 30A fuse there.

The fact that you never disconnected the battery makes me think it is not a connection issue as you have somewhat regularly been using the ski.

What happens if you jump the solenoid?

We need to get SOMETHING so that we can start to head in a direction. Right now we are simply guessing.

Morning,

Thanks for your reply to the power issue,

Can you tell me where the solonoid is and where this red cable is with the inline 30a fuse,

Is it in the battery bay at the front, or the main engine compartment?

I'm going to go take a look at that today. :-)

Follow the red positive wire from the battery. It will go directly to the Starter Solenoid. You will find two larger terminals on the solenoid. Take pliers or a screwdriver and jump across the terminals (there will likely be sparks). It should crank. You do NOT need the lanyard on the DESS for this test.

If it cranks, you have a good battery, connections, cables, and starter. If not, then one of those is bad.

Still no joy :-(

Can anyone recommend a UK mobile repair guy??

To be clear,,, you jumped the solenoid and it did not crank? Yes?
Were there any sparks?

Take a battery that is NOT in the ski (remove the cables from the ski battery). Put GOOD QUALITY jumper cables on the ground of the battery to the motor block. Then put one end of the hot onto the solenoid (On the side that goes down to the starter (not the battery side)), then put the other end onto the the hot terminal of the battery.

It should crank the engine. If NOTHING happens (and there could be sparks so be aware of this), then the starter is dead or what is termed open. However, there is a chance it is simply stuck or partially engaged. Take a ball peen hammer and LIGHTLY tap on the metal housing. If it is stuck, this will normally free it up.

If it does crank, then the cables, connections or battery within the ski are bad.

I didn't mind checking the battery and fuses but don't think I am competent enough to try and jump it, I don't even know what or where the solenoid is :-(

If anyone can recommend a mobile UK repairer I would appreciate it,

Thank you all for trying to help and giving me some good advise.

So you never jumped the solenoid? This is an important part of isolating things out. We can help, but we NEED good info. Based on your post above you made it sould like you did jump it.

Hi Guys,

i towed my ski to my local seadoo dealer. they said it was a dodgy start/stop button and said as the button is part of a wiring harness i would need to purchase the whole thing for £350.

Thanks for your help
