2008 Rxtx not reaching top speed

Hello, I recently purchased a 2008 Rxtx 255, got a really good deal on it and it’s in decent shape. Just took it out for the first time and was not impressed at all. I thought it would have been a rocket ship, it barely got up to 55 and barely over 6200rpm. Am I missing something? The guy I got it from said it would do 70 and pulled hard I’m not seeing that at all. Thanks in advance

Supercharger clutch is probably slipping out of spec
That was my thought as well, the previous owner said the sc was rebuilt less than 30 hr ago. But it doesn’t have that sc pull under acceleration at all. I’ve ridden my buddies 230 it’s stock and pulls hard. The only recent repair I’ve made was replaced the impeller and wear ring which was damaged badly.

Wrong impeller for you ski will also cause your problems.
Any idea what factory pitch should be for impeller? It currently has 14/22 no cavitation won’t get over 6800 rpm and 55 mph. Super frustrating for a 255. Can sc be replaced while in water?

Before you do anything, make sure you have fresh spark plugs, then test again and go deeper, if needed. Worth the $13 investment if you are not sure when they were last replaced.

14/19 or 13/19 and change your plugs for as mentioned

Plugs are brand new. Decided to check sc slip and found I was able to get it to spin with some effort. More concerning was the intercooler looked restricted with debris. I’m going to pull sc and replaced as the compressor wheel looks bad. I would put money this thing was not changed with in the last 30 hrs as told.

Usually a supercharger rebuild does not include the wheel, so a rebuild could have been done 30 hours ago. Post a pic of your wheel someone will know if it needs replacement. They are expensive. Check your washer slip with an analog torque gauge while it’s off. If you didn’t throw away your old impeller check the pitch or part number on the impeller and you could even throw it back on and see if it changes anything.

I have a new sc ready for install. I’d like to confirm it’s ready to go. It was given to me as a spare that “needs rebuild” but it looks brand new or reman.

Beyond my expertise, looks in great shape though. Not knowing its history and “needs rebuild” not sure if someone can okay it or not. Certainly not me.

I can tell by the gold-colored clutch washers that it needs to be rebuilt. Those haven't been used since 2012ish time frame. Way overdue to be rebuilt but not because of the clutch washers but because of the bearings that will have the brittle plastic spacers.

Well the saga continues. I’ve replaced the supercharger and cleaned out the intercooler, put the ski back in the water and it feels exactly the same. I will be purchasing a different impeller and throwing it in this weekend to see if that’s the problem. It’s extremely frustrating not having the power it should. Is there anything else I should be looking for ?

Going to bring to the dealer Monday. I’m thinking it’s stuck in limp mode for some reason. Hope that’s the case and it’s an easy fix.

Check fuel injector pattern and coils.

Do a leak down test or at least a compression check.
Found someone local with buds software, he was able to pull the codes. We cleared them and none of them came back I’m assuming they were tripped during the compression test. Cleared codes still feels the same. I did notice it looks like the faults occurred on coils 1&2 3 times, but if you look at coil 3 it’s showing 20 faults. The ski runs great and never feels like it’s misfiring or cavitating. I’m going to replace the coils anyway as well as the impeller again. I was able to score a solas concord SRX-CD-15/20. Hoping one of the 2 fixes this thing.

About to throw in the towel on this thing. Prop didn’t change anything, fuel pressure was great at 55lbs pulled pump out and replaced both screens. This ski feels like it’s in limp mode I don’t understand. It will only do 47 and not get over 5900 rpm throttle to the bars. Last ditch effort before I bring to dealer/sell it will be change oil/filter and pressure sensor. Anyone make any more suggestions? Thanks again

Did you replace the coils and check the injector spray pattern? At 20 occurrences on coil 3 is not just from a compression check.

Does it accelerate hard like it should?

I did replace all 3 coils as well, I did not check injector pattern. No it does not pull hard at all. My 97 xp has me holding on for dare life compared to this thing 😂

Sounds like you're running on only 2 cylinders. They run surprisingly well on only 2 cylinders and the average person thinks it is running fine but just doesn't have enough power. Go back to basics, compression, fuel, and well-timed spark to make it run right. 5 minute test to check the spray pattern and fuel usage. Pull the fuel rail and spray into 3 glass jars while cranking.
