OK, Bombadier won't speak to me ("contact your dealer"). Dealers haven't got a clue ("yes it does", "no it doesn't", "ceramic what?").

So....... Does the 2008 Sea-Doo GTX-215 Limited have the ceramic washers or not? The boat has 5 hours on it so I don't want to replace metal washers if it's not necessary but if it has the ceramic washers, then I'll take it in and have the S/C rebuilt.

If anybody knows the definitive answer to this question I'll be in your debt until I die!

Officially, the 08's are suppose to be free and clear of the ceramic washers, that said, we have seen more than a fist full that have had them. As best I can tell, it is the early builds. So, the best thing to do is, pull and and take a picture of the washers and post the picture. We will know from the picture.

I don't care if they are ceramic or metal and they only have 5 hrs on them.

The bearings and specifically the cages that hold them together are 6+ yrs old.

Do what you want.

I will second what redblue said,,, The cages do fail as they age. So you technically are due for a rebuild. That said, having almost no hours on the engine, they will not be as brittle as an engine that had been run for many hours over the years...

Keith, Virgil himself has told me that the "ceramic" hoopla is just that...hoopla. He didn't see any failures.

Maybe so...but I will tell you from personal experience....a wheel touching down at 40K rpm...ain't no joke...and nuthin to gamble with. Not tryin to be a dck...but man...you cannot cheap out on the maintenance on these toys.

Thanks, red, this is a very useful anecdote. I fully understand your comments about penny-wise and pound foolish. Every dealer I've spoken to said pretty much the same thing - "just have the S/C rebuilt at 100 hours and after that, you can do it every 200 hours". Of course, if it craps out on me after 20 hours they lose nothing.

And if we are being honest,,, I do believe that I would take it out for a cruise or two...

But I would be getting it rebuilt. Especially since the site offers the service. Hard to trust people more than those associated with the site...

If I were a little more handy, I might do the removal and install myself, but for a couple of reasons that not going to be possible (I'm not at the boat's location and I wouldn't be comfortable with that level of teardown). I'll probably winterize it and have the work done next spring.

I just sent one of my SC (55 hours) in for a rebuild to PWCmuscle on Monday....it really doesn't get any easier than that....and for the price, they are far cheaper than a dealer or indy mechanic.....

LouDoo. Do you have time to find this. I'm busy for the next several hours.

Never mind. I Googled it and found the PWC Muscle video. I'll leave it to the stealer over the winter.

Sorry I couldn't help you earlier, I was on the road and I seriously limit my phone use while driving. I can talk all day long as my Lexus has built in blue-tooth, I just don't text...

Joe: Sorry if that sounded off ("never mind") - it wasn't intended to. I just got my thumb out of my butt and Googled "seadoo supercharger rebuild" and found a couple of videos.

Coastiejoe Kevin, sorry I just got your message, we played hookey today and went to the lake, 88 here today, not too many of these days left, at least for us.

Lou

Don't blame you at all Lou. Getting out this late in the season is a must do when you have the chance. No issues.
