2002 xp 951 driveshaft removal

How do I get this thing out!!! Need to change carbon ring!!! Help!!!

It's just like a regular driveshaft. Take the c clip off, then pull the pump, then pull the shaft. Just pretend it's an X4 hull and blur out the rest.

Are you guys sure... I know about the carrier ring c clip BUT... This thing is a two peice driveshaft with rubber and star coupling that in encased in the shock suppourt driveshaft bearing housing.... Phew... Trying sayin that 3times..., uncharted territory for me. I'm no dummy just want some advice.

If you are just going to change the carbon seal you don't need to mess with any of the stuff on the forward drive shaft.

It is easy as others have said and I just did mine about a month ago.
1. Remove the pump.
2. Remove the C-clip.
3. pull the short drive shaft out the back.
4. You will hear the coupler fall off the front of the little driveshaft that you just removed and it will be behind the seat shock support but you can just pick it up. You will see that it is splined so just make sure it aligns with the front shaft coupler when you put it back together.
 
Holy f**k... You guys are not gonna believe this but decided to take carbs off an see if they need a rebuild.... Turns out there was a RAG still in intake manifold behind carbs!!! Unbelievable. Trying to get this thing running good before winterizing.

I believe it. I've had to pull whole engines because the PO assembled it in the dark. Drunk. And under water.

I also had to pull the driveshaft because I had to replace the carrier bearing in the back.

when you remove the shaft, it will slide strait out the back, the coupler will fall, you'll have to loosen the 2 10mm bolts (and nuts) to get that top cover off, so you can then position it for reassembly.

this, its the same on the 97 xp as well. i replaced the carrier bearing, carbon ring and all associated o-rings because the stainless ring was loose and chewed up the seal on the carrier. its a good idea to replace as much soft parts as you can find since its not that simple of a task to get back in and replace them later.
 
Ok ok so this seadoo that we thought was a great deal is givin me fits... The stainless ring on driveshaft won't budge. Destroyed my spread tool. Any pointers??? My head is gonna explode! We got rag out of intake. Thank god for reed cage. Took it back to water and still bogged and hissed. Waiting on carb and driveline kit to replace carbon and steel ring BUT I CANT GET IT OUT!!!

Spray the chit out of it. O-rings probably dried to the shaft

If you are purchasing a carbon seal kit with a new ring, I would put a cut off wheel on a die grinder and cut the darn thing off the driveshaft.
 
Well I don't want to cut it off cause it's very easy to slip and damage the shaft. More$$$. Racer I did spray it with pb blaster but nothing. I might try heating it with torch tomm. Any other ideas.

Yes I am purchasing complete drive shaft rebuild. That's two orings, stainless ring( heavy duty version), and carbon ring and c clip.

If both are being replaced, don't be afraid to put a hammer to it. Stainless ring is probably corroded on the circlip.

If I could I would!!!! That little compartment back there has got NO room to do anything. Especially to swing a hammer. I know what happened to the stainless ring. It's warped. The PO said to himself " I'm gonna let it run for 30 minutes on the hose to make sure it's runnin fine"......

If you can't get a full swing of a hammer, maybe a flat-edged wedge of some sort would help? although m ski is different, I remember I had to use a hammer just so that SS ring would free up so I could remove/replace the driveshaft pieces.
If I remember correctly, I had to use something along with a hammer to evenly tap it free
 
Ok soooo I finally got it out!!! Well had to cut it with dremel and cutoff wheel very carefulluy... Like a surgeon... Not one nick on driveshaft Here are some pics.
