Nice! 6700RPM - I think there's a bit more on the table to be had. Are RAVE blades completely CLEAN? Do you feel a burst come in about 80% throttle, I think that one likely has the throttle position switch (TPS) in the throttle cable at the "Y" where the throttle cable splits into two (A->carb B->oil pump)? The signal from the TPS to MPEM adds ignition advance.

Also, did you set the HS mix screws to closed, or are they open? In that case it could be too rich.

Thanks sportster for chiming in... Well I thought there was more to be had but at that moment I was happy to get a 60 mph blast on a ski that would not go!!! Ok so to answer you questions.... Yes the valves are clean. They were actually frozen in the valve guides! Salty! I cleaned and rebuilt.... The carbs were rebuilt a yes the high speed need is closed.i cleaned, lubed needle. Closed then backed of 1/32 of turn( just hair off closed)...yes it has the y cable at the throttle. I did not adjust that. The engine is supposed to be"new". I don't think so. Maybe a little breakin??? I don't remember a burst like you mentioned. We are gonna replace stator because I'm pretty sure it's salty. Got a clean one from 99spxxx... I know TPS has to be adjusted by programmer... Maybe that's it??? It got more I'm sure....

Agree, not gonna hurt anything to run it easy for a while, however....

Something to check, this might be the problem...

Yes, this is a carbed 951 so there is a switch on the throttle cable that signals the MPEM for additional ignition advance at throttle positions above 80% there is a 5v level from the MPEM that is pulled low by that switch. It's not the same as the injected motors that have dual throttle position sensors, those are potentiometers. Our carbed 951 motor has a magnetic switch in the throttle cable just in front of the mag housing there where the cable splits from 1 to 2. It has 3 wires going to the switch, purple 12v/black gnd/wht+bwn signal.

So you can check for the 5V ignition advance signal (less than 80% throttle) or near 0V above 80% throttle, on the white wire with brown stripe at connector #2 pin #17 of the MPEM. You should see the 5V there at throttle less than 80% and it switches to near 0V at over 80% throttle. This tells the MPEM to add ignition advance and without it you won't get full potential power.

Does this peice clip on to throttle cable that splits off. By peice I mean the plastic with the three wires connected. I have a piece of plastic like a clip with epoxy covering three wires in front of ski... If that's it oh man!!!!

Basically it's glued onto the splitter box with a clear epoxy. It looks like it might clip on due to it's shape and probably a couple of tie-wraps would hold it on but it's actually cemented on and fairly easy to remove by prying with a screwdriver.

Reminds me of an old pager type of belt clip almost, except it has those 3 wires.

It's there and it's not connected!!! It's just tie strapped to main harness not connected to anything! Does the orientation matter? I'm gonna put it back on and water test.....

I think you can test the function of the switch using your voltmeter and a hat pin or stiff wire to back probe the MPEM connector (wht/brn wire from above) and check for the signal to confirm it's working. There's a magnet inside that black throttle cable splitter that moves back and forth with the cable wire and this magnet triggers a sensor transistor (IC) that's connected to the three wires. The sensor is a solid state magnetic proximity IC and if you need to replace it I have the transistor number. Those are available on ebay for a buck or two, so don't sweat it if it's bad, easy to replace before gluing the holder clip back on.

Honeywell SS41, there are substitutes, I have the list and the specific one I used to repair mine, let me know if it's not working and I'll hunt those details up on my hard drive.

Anyway, you can probably see the outline of the epoxy adhesive that held the clip onto the splitter so just put that back on in the same position and put a couple tie wraps to hold it onto the splitter while testing. If it works then just use some polyurethane adhesive to permanently glue it back onto the splitter box. A little dab or two should do the trick. I think the wires point away from the engine towards the bow and upward from the bilge, that's how they were on my boat.

My clip didn't fall off like yours did, on mine the IC inside the clip was bad. So I pried the clip off and replaced the IC.

What ever happened when you connected it?
