I just bought a 2001 Seadoo Rx from a guy last week. The ski had been sitting in his garage for the past year or two. I took it out to the lake, put gas and redline 2 stroke racing oil into it (same kind as he already had in it), put it in the water and it fired up no problem. Let it warm up for a bit and started taking it out into the open water. It had no power what so ever, I had the throttle held wide open for about 3 minutes only going about 20mph. All of a sudden the true power finally kicked. I'm guessing the old gas finally cleared out of the lines and carbs. I was doing a steady 60mph after that and it had consistent power. My only problem was when I tried to cruise at low speeds. 5-10mph it kept bogging down to idle then coming back up. It even died a couple of times while trying to cruise through the low speed zones at the lake. But if I go half or full throttle it runs perfect without hesitation. Also when the ski is out of the water hooked up to the water hose it idles at 3300-3400rpms. Is that too high? All help would be very much appreciated!

Hi & Welcome to the forum.

if it sat for 2-3 yrs with gas in it, then it's probably gummed up. I would rebuild the carbs and make sure you have black fuel lines (which you should by 2001 models).

I wouldn't run it again until you clean the carbs, it could be running lean and that will cause an engine failure faster than you can say it.

How is the clearance between the impeller and the wear ring?

Yes It has black fuel lines, How do you check the clearance between the impeller and the wear ring? And is the idle too high when its out of the water at 3300-3400rpm?

No that is pretty normal idle.

If the lines were replaced then I can only assume the carbs need to be gone thru. I 2nd that you should not drive it like that till its done.

On top of page click on home, scroll down to "how to articles" Make sure thread option is set at beginning so all 50-60 threads show up.

But this might help you for starters http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?4151-Snipes-Korner

On what oil to use
http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?28478-QuickSilver-oils
is that Redline 2 stroke oil made for PWC or lawn mowers......switch to full synthetic quicksilver, BRP or amsoil interceptor

clearance:
Use a feeler gauge, it should be no more than .040 inches....about the thickness of a dime...the smaller the better

If you are not comfortable doing the carbs yourself you can PM Doc Honda here and he will only charge you for the parts that are needed. He does a lot of the guy's carbs here and is very honest and fair.
