I purchased my first Jet Ski this year. I purchased a used 2001 Sea-Doo GTX Rotax Direct injection with 200 hours on it. It ran great all summer until last week. While I was driving, it felt like I was losing power and not that responsive when I applied the throttle. I shut it down and tried to start it 5 minutes later and it would barely start and shut down. I decided to change out the spark plugs and same thing. It would start but barely run and die. To give you a little background of my mechanical experience, I can tear apart any car engine and repair or rebuild it. I would say I'm a high level mechanic. Now, when it comes to these two cycle Sea-Doo's, I will be honest and say I have no idea how these Sea-Doo's tick. Therefore, I'm reaching out to you for assistance as to how to diagnosis this thing. The basic principal of any engine is: Compression, fuel, and spark and it should run. So where to start is the next question: 1)Is there a computer in which I can read codes or do I need a special scanner or can the information center tell me something? 2) I have spark, but how can I check fuel pressure? I read something about fuel lines being a problem on these Sea-Doo's so what am I looking for if the fuel lines are the problem? 3) is there a special way to check the fuel pump pressure because I believe it has gas starvation 4) Are there any fuel filters and where? Are there any type of air filters?

I apologize for the length of this question but I really want to learn about these engines. When answering, please be very specific and step by step

First, the Di ski is a beast all it's own. Requires more tools, diagnostics, knowledge and MONEY to own one.

1). Candoo Pro can plug into and read your ski. It can be purchased here from this site. I believe it is $400 give or take a few bucks. I bought one as I own two 4-tec ski's.
2). The Di ski fuel pump is a weal point. At idle you need 117 psi. This number increases as the throttle does. You MUST get the fuel pressure. If you don't, you will be chasing ghosts forever. I don't own a Di ski, so I can't tell you where to splice into. That said, if you are not a Premium Memeber, you probably should be. The manuals are a free download once you join as a premium member. And you WILL need the manual for that ski. The fuel line issue you read about is NOT an issue on Di skis. Your ski has fuel injected line where the problem lines are Grey Tempo low pressure line.
3). Basically answered in #2
4). There are filters, the manual will tell you the part numbers and locations.

I appreciate the response but I need a more detailed explanation as to where to start and what to look for... In terms of fuel pressure can I use an ordinary fuel pressure gauge used for automtoive or is tis only obtained from pluggin in a computer

From what I've read, the fuel pump is the major failure on these, and some after market ones are good, some are bad.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, you NEED the manual for this ski. There is nothing like the Di system all the pressures and connection points are in there.

A regular pressure gauge will work, Just needs to go high enough.

Yes, you need to check fuel pressure since (as said) that is a common failure point. Most automotive fuel pressure testers won't go as high as 117 psi, so you might need to fab up your own tester. I used an automotive compression gauge to make my tester, as have others on this forum. The service manual shows the Seadoo recommended test rig, and how and where to test fuel pressure, as one option.
Google "Seadoo manuals" and the first hit will be a free download site (.net). There are fuel strainers in the fuel pump assembly and a fuel filter between the pump and the fuel/air rail. There are no air filters.
