2001 Bombardier Xp issues

had this jetski for two weeks now and was bought under the assumption that the ski ran and functioned as it should. After the first sea trial the battery was dead. Went and purchased a new one and now the ski starts up as it should. Now the issue is that the idle is rough and will only get up to 25 mph if i mash the throttle(ski should go 60) and caps out at 4,000 rpms out of 8,000. Installed new sparks plugs hoping that would solve the problem. After that i proceeded to check the fuel filter to see if any water had accumulated. there was none. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

First stop riding it or you will damage the engine.
1. Check compression (not with a Harbor Freight gauge).
2. Rebuild the carbs and fuel system using only genuine Mikuni parts.

You have a lot of items to check and maintenance on a new to you 951 XP. But you have this forum to help you along the way.
Please ask questions and post pictures here before you start buying stuff so we can make this as painless as possible for you.
