Just a newb here, but if you "flushed" it without it running, through the rear hose connection, it probably back filled the engine with water. I'm pretty sure that's a possiblity. There's a few videos on line about it.

Okay, so we rode it around for at least an hour and it ran good the entire time. No hesitation, odd noises or symptoms.

Both MAG and PTO cylinders are blowing 110psi compression according to my gauge. Info center reports 226 hours on the clock.

Everything works except the fuel gauge, didn't test VTS to avoid opening any cans of worms during the event, so that's an unknown.

The largest blemish is on the V under the bow, about 8 inches of gel-coat are abraded away from beaching most likely. The glass mat remains intact. Some lipstick in this location and IMO other light blemishes should rub out bright and shiny.

Trailer lights aren't working, I can fix this in case someone wants lights. A trailer bunk has lost a couple lag bolts and the bunk carpet needs re-stapling. Easy stuff! :)

I'm doing the top end on a 947 that was 110psi per cylinder. Did I labor in vain? :D

I think not, depending on your tolerance for risk. If you don't run it, it won't grenade, so which is more fun? Rebuilding certainly beats a windowed set of cases, unless maybe you're case-rich?

Every single 2-stroke on earth will eventually seize unless it's rebuilt before it happens.

I can't speculate on doing just the top, without sounding circular or reciprocal.

My problem is this, I find a certified Sea Doo shop/dealer, they tell me there is water in engine and it will be around $4000 to get it running again, might want too well it for $300 to someone they know for parts? Thank God Jim is decent/nice enough to say let me take a look, gets it running (I am going to take care of him). I looked at comp new one, with new trailer and I am looking around 20K???

Sounds like your ski is running fine now, I'd ride it until it gives up. Though I don't think you have much longer at 226 hours and a crank that sat in water when stored from last season.

Yeah, the new skis are expensive, to each as own, I'll just stick with my old 2 strokes, easy to work on and won't break the bank. You have a nice ski, those 2000 RX Millennium skis look pretty sweet, and I'm sure it moves pretty good on the water.. A new Seadoo Spark starting at $5400 without a trailer? Or a GTI for $11500? or a GTX for $16900? No thanks...I'd keep the RX running.

Update: The owner came and took his girl back. Sorry we can't pass this one around fellas, maybe next time! :)

Turns out the water event occurred just before taking it to the shop.

Question. With 110PSI per cylinder... how healthy is the engine ??
No one has reported one that low and still running, as far as I know. That's my best answer. There was a DI blowing about this and still running. The lower it goes though, the more chance of the oil film blowing out.

I used to think years ago that a cylinder wouldn't fire under 100psi but I discovered I was mistaken when I saw an new out of the box Evinrude V6 that blew 90psi. I guess some of the older engines blew even less?

Here's an article I appreciate, on the subject:

For me compression is one of the easier things to address. I like it where it needs to be.

Guys -

This is an awesome thread, and i have a similar situation

Someone nearby me is selling this exact same Ski "needs a motor" for $1k

I offered $600. Hull looks like its in good shape.

What would a new engine cost me with installation??

You could easily put $2500 more into it if someone's doing the work for you, slightly more would be no surprise. The owner of this ski was quoted $4k

You'll have a like-new ski though, other things will add cost, like repairing the VTS if it's had water inside. Maybe you don't care about the VTS, it's not necessary for riding but if it's pointed completely down or up it should be centered. That can be accomplished mechanically without repairing it if need be.

To me this qualifies as a big ski, almost a boat, lol. There are much larger ones out there. This model RX is very nice though and a pleasure to ride.

$600 is about the tops, I don't buy non running skis for over $500. By the time you rebuild the engine and fix all the little things you are about where you could have bought a running one but you have a new engine. If you are paying someone labor it doesn't make sense, just buy one already running.

I have one and a half that run (SL 780 needs carbs rebuilt)

Always wanted a Sea Doo though and I've always loved the RX. I'm hoping they make me an offer i cant refuse...otherwise I'll stick to my Polaris' until I find me a Sea Doo worth grabbing.
