Hello Pros,

I am working on a top end rebuild for a 2000 gtx with the 951 carbed engine. Is it possible to remove the 8 head studs without removing the motor? The top 4 stude came out easy but i cant remove the bottom 4.

Thanks

Yes you can remove them with the engine in place. You will likely need to double nut the threaded section that is sticking out of the head and use "that" method for unscrewing all of the extended length bolts. You must loosen all the bolts and remove them along with the cylinders at the same time. I recently did this on a 1998 GTX. If you have any questions feel free to ask. :) Good Luck !

Don't pull the studs out. Make sure they are unscrewed completely. Leave them in place.... leave them INSIDE the cylinder. Lift the cylinder with the studs in place. You'll have to reposition them a bit but everything will come out. I did a top end on a 1998 GTX Limited. Unless something is different it is possible and pretty dang easy. :) Here is some proof for non-believers. :D:D Give her another go.
