1999 gsx / 1997 XP

I can pick up either of those machines for the same price. Both look to be in about same good condition... have not looked at in person yet.

Previously I owned a 95 SPX and 95 polaris sl750 but just sold both to down size to just 1.

what would you do? I dont know anything about ethre model as far as what they were more made for.power, handlng, etc.

i dont really care to be able to pull anyone on a tube or anything or ride passengers. i race motocross so i like making the jet ski riding like motocross on water..trying to jump everything and constantly turning sharp and all that fun stuff.

i wanted to go as new as possible for my price range.. so obviously the 99 is better for that.. but the XP looks like a sweet machine~!

would appreciate anyones opinions or comparison between the 2. thx guys/gals

Have one, just picked it up...and wouldnt part with it. Cheaper to fix, easier to work on, mid 50's top speed, and like you said...LOOKS SWEET.

99GSX = 951CC

XP = 800CC

You have the XP or GSX?

Looks like the XP would be harder to work on with that weird seat.. doesnt seem like the hull is as big or something.. maybe its different looking in person.


I wish it was the red limited version but its the yellow one...

Can get either for 1800... good deal??

leaning towards that due to the fact that its 2 yrs newer than the other.. and its close to home.. the other is an hour drive... but i cant get over how much cooler the xp looks! ha

yea..the xp is more cooler..but if you can find an xp with a 951 engine,then that will be better,the 800 on that xp is underpowered since the body is havier.

yup....theres only one style 97xp, 98 they had the XPL w/951...not sure what nikko is saying, being underpowered, doing mid 50's stock, aint bad.

i did read reviews that the 97 was like "pwc of the year" or something.. but they did say it was heavy and that 98 was much better and got moving much better... but compared to my 95 SPX im sure it would be similar in power?? and that was fine...

how is that like shock seat thing... is it more for looks or does it actually function pretty cool?

still trying to figure out what i want to do. maybe ill take whichever doenst have the stock grey fuel lines.. lol. f those things.

well that is just my opinion,i test rode the 97 xp 800 and my 96 xp 800 with x4 hull is quicker,so i decided if i will get a newer xp than i would look for the xp with 951 engine instead.
