New to the forums and posted in wrong forum.
Have had my speedster for 6 years & just love it.
Ran last week then I drained the battery by leaving the lights on all night.
Rained like hell for a day and a half and had about 1 foot of water on the deck so the motor was submerged. Bailed the water out.
Charged the battery and wouldn't turn over.
Pulled the plugs and turned the motor over.
Cleaned and put the plugs back in and would turn over but not start.
Took the plugs out and air breather off and let dry out but same thing.
Thinking may just be plugs but maybe the distributer wires?
Help need suggestions.
Thanks

make sure all the water is out, and get oil into that engine !!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the way it sounds, it's been a few days wet. If that's correct, the damage is already done.

First, check for spark. Second, pour some 2-stroke oil down the carbs. Third, use some starter fluid to get it to fire. You need the heat and velocity of a running engine to displace the water and get oil back into the bearing.

Thanks Dr Honda.
How do you get access to the carbs for the 2 stroke oil?
Could it be fuses and where are they located?
Thanks a bunch as I'm going up in the next day 'cause my son wants to wakeboard.
My name will be mud if I don't get it going for the long weekend.
Appreciate any help & suggestions.

Thanks Dr Honda.

You would have to take the air box off, and pour a little in.

On the 16.5' speedster... there are a few in the electronics box in the back, and there may be a few under the hood. (you need to remove the bucket) But I'm not 100% sure on that one, since I've never actually played with a 16.5' SeaDoo. But I know they are there on other models.

Welllllllll.............

If there has been water in that engine for a few days... it may not come back to life. The internals are only protected by the oil, and when water gets into the engine... it starts to rust very quick. So... even if you get it fired up, the life will be shortened.

But, I wish you the best of luck with it.

Thanks for the info ... again!
I'm leaving tomorrow morning to see what I can do.
When I picked up the plugs they said to make sure all the water was out by blocking 1 cylinder and cranking then doing the other cylinder.
Hoping that the fogging of the cylinders through the carbs along with the new plugs and the help from this forum will be enough.
Appreciate the help and will post my results.
Wish me luck!

It's Alive!

Thanks everyone for the advice and concern.
I'm a new member here and this forum rocks!
Dr Honda your suggestions worked perfectly.:hurray:
I was so confident that I rode my motorcycle to the cottage. Nice ride there but great ride back.
Cranked the motor with plugs out then 1 plug in until I got all the crap out.
Put some starting fluid and new plugs and got it going after lots of stalling.
Once going I used some fogging oil in the breather 'til it was smoking and getting lots of lube.
Ran it for about an hour on the lake and ran great!
My son and his friends are at the cottage and having a ball wakeboarding.
Thanks again for getting me out of the doghouse!

Good to hear your out on the lake!

Just make sure you put lots and lots and lots of fogging oil in the engine when you go to winterize this fall. Any remnants of water left in there over the winter will cause bottom end engine problems in the new year!

Life's Good Again!

Thanks for the advice Bmann06, I'll make sure I put lots of fogging oil in for the winter.
We're just northeast of you off Hwy 41 before Bon Echo. Small world eh?
Lucky we have all these great lakes to choose from in our area.
I rode my bike to Kingston (visiting family) via mostly backroads and I had a great ride as the pressure of the broken Speedster was off my mind.:hurray:
I spoke to the boys at the cottage last night and they're having a ball.
Really glad I found this community (I should've looked before I had a problem though).

Very small world!! I take my CBR up through 41 and those backroads quite often ... there are some great twisties up there!! :reddevil:

Small World After All!

Bmann06 I've been riding up that way for a number of years and like the 506 to Ompah, but I took Harlowe Rd to Henderson to Hwy7 then Mountaion Grove Rd to Hwy 38 to Kingston yesterday. Nice twisties and had my 07 BMW K1200GT just singing. Not quite flickable like the CBR (Red is the fastest colour), but certainly put a smile on my face especially since I got the Speedster going. Great talking to the like-minded! Take care,

Many Thanks ... 1998 Speedster Working Like A Charm!

Been a busy little while lately ... putting the Speedster away for the winter and next the motorcycle.
I just want to thank everyone for the helpful ideas and confidence in getting my Speedster going again after I tried to sink it.
It runs perfect again and I'm in the good books with my son and all his friends.
This site is terrific and you guys and gals are the best!
Just wanted to say thanks and have a great fall and winter.
Can't wait for spring and get out on the water!
