So there is a 1997 HX Hull listed for sale that I'm going to see tonight. It is missing the motor and electronics is what I'm sold and has been out of the water since 2003. Otherwise I'm told it is in very good condition.

What is a fair price for the hull? Can anyone provide a guesstimate as to what I may be putting into this jetski for a motor and electronics?

He's asking $250 obo. There's a working one a couple hours away from me for $1k by itself, that's why I'm trying to weigh my options.

Your going to spend more than 1k assembling it from a bare hull IMO. The motor, and electronics are the big ticket items. But the rest of the nickel and dime stuff will eat you up

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

hulls aren't worth very much down here either, i'd say with title, bout $100, but honestly if you know they're hard to get where you are, and have priced other options, then the extra $150 isn't much more anyway.

I was thinking that was going to be the case

There's another one listed in MI and they are asking $2k so it seems that prices for what does exist are all over the place

Yeah the 2 stroke market can be all over the place. It's all really about the condition and maintenance on the ski. Always give it a thorough look over, compression test, and ALWAYS try to water test the ski. Ask the owner about the maintenance they do and ask to see the oil they are using. His answers will tell you a lot about the skis life

i'm of the $100 - 175 mindset, and plan on the big ticket items eating you alive. must have title, must be in what i'd consider B+ to A- condition at the very least, otherwise keep looking. read below but I have no issues with you paying $250 if its b-, has title, working gauges, complete pump that needs rebuild, trim parts.... and of course you have a plan, if your just going in willy nilly "i want a random jet ski project" then you should probably wait for the next $250 special to pop up.

with that said... we see them quite often for $200-400 complete (but needing lots of love) so this is not a steal by any means, and one of the reasons I think this is that if you don't have a doner ski right now, your still going to be better off looking for a doner ski to fill in all the missing pieces, and it probably won't cost that much more than this, which means the initial purchase might end up being a mistake assuming the donor hull isn't in as good of shape.

if I have a hull (and i've had a few) in my back yard, and its missing motor/electronics and god knows what else (pump ? rebuild? driveshaft... exhaust... non working gauges ? just for starters) I'll PAY somebody $10 to come get it. The last hull I had that fit your generic description I sold to a guy for less than the cost of a 12 pack, and all he really wanted was the DESS post, I talked him into taking the whole dam thing for the same price, helped him load it in the truck, and hi-fived the wife when I got back inside. (no title)

buy the one for 1k... the HX never sold en mass numbers... getting parts and etc is going to be a pita and MUCH more than 1k.

ever try to build a car one part at a time? it's 20x more expensive...

If the one for 1k is in lima OH doesnt seem like a bad deal. Im tired of seeing it on IN craigslist and everytime I look at it I have to talk myself out of not going to look at it
