I have a 1997 Gtx which is running fine when it's warmed up, but when I first turn it on the next day it is hard to start.
After 10 seconds I notice a spark but then it cuts off, when I play with the choke it starts up in 2 or 3 seconds, is that necessary?
I usually idle for about 5 min, before I give full throttle after turning it on it cuts off again, but if I rev. up slowly once it runs good.

Here are a few more infos:

I rebuild both raves two weeks ago, because one of the rave pistons that hold the spring was melted and leaking oil. I cleaned the valve and replaced the bellows, rave piston, o-ring and gasket and made shure it is moving free. The rave screws are all the way in

I put in new spark plugs and gaped them right. The plugs look ok after 2h, a little black(can wipe it off), a little fuel and oil( but the mag plug is more dry then the pto)

Idle is 1500-1600rpm.

Full throttle gives me only 6650rpm

My compression is 152 mag and 152 pto.

Max speed is only 54mph, or 89 km/h

Last weakend I took the carbs off and checked the rotary valve timing but there is nothing wrong with it, it was 146.5..

I think I burn a little too much gas, 10 gallons last only 4 hours mostly WOT.

I use BRP synthetic oil, one gallon last 4-5 fuel refills (10 gallons a refill), I thought it should use only 3 refills?

I hope somebody can give me good tips related to my starting issue or help me improving the performance of my ski, if you need more infos let me know, I will go and check it.

Any suggestions or advice are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

If I understand you correctly you only need to use the choke to start it when the motor is cold. If that is the case, it is perfectly normal. I believe top speed on that ski is about 55mph

Yes, I rebuild the carbs last fall and I replaced the grey fuel lines with marine fuel lines. I replaced a lot on that ski last summer like starter, oil pump, broke engine with a new SBT engine. I think before my old engine died last summer it started up without the use of the choke.
