My 97 challenger 110hp worked fine until today. When I was boating today it ran fine, then all of a sudden it wouldn't go past 3500 rpm and approx 8-10mph. After inspecting, one of the raves appears to be in bad shape. Is it possible that a bad (or stuck) rave could cause this? There is good spark on both plugs.

3500 is a magic number with the boats.

Your neutral safety switch is stuck. It's mounted into the lever assembly, and they go bad.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't clean your RAVE's... but the switch is the issue.

its your raves. Pull them, clean them up, and install new spark plugs. Yours are fouled from the raves sticking, giving you power to only one cylinder.

Can I run my engine with only one rave and a blank cover on the other opening? I am in a bit of a remote area and have some family home for a visit so I would like to use my boat, but wont get any replacement parts for a week. What are the purpose of rave valves? And what are the consequences of operating without them with blank covers in place?

Best regards,

Rocky
