Engine mounts in different location.
conversion has been done multiple times, but its not THAT common since there are so many 96 xp hulls out there with blown enginesfirst step is fiberglass, not sure if anything needs to be changed on the drive, then swapping out electronic's of course. i'm sure there is a how-to out there. so now you have 3 hulls sitting in the back yard ?
You're going to be far better off to find a ski with a 787, the reasons being:
The mounts are completely different, you will have to do quite a bit of fiberglass work to create new mounting points, and even if you can accomplish this you will probably have problems aligning the motor to the pump.
The motors mount differently, the 717 is at a 90 degree angle to the hull, while the 787 is at a 45 degree angle.
Nothing matches up, exhaust is different, carbs. are different, etc. etc.
You will need a different wiring harness and different electrics, most if not all 787's require a front and a rear E-box while the 717's only has a front E-box, different MPEM's

someone once said that there was a company that made a plate that bolted into the 718 mounts and mated up with the 787, but finding one nowadays would be tough
You probably would be better off just repairing the hull the 787 is in. is it sea worthy? Post some pics of the damage. A little filler sanding and gelcoat sounds like a way better option to me.Okay I had no idea it was that much work... I was thinking I could make new mounts then just swap the entire motor and exhaust I have from the ski with the 787.
The ski with the 787 is reparable, but this new to me xp has a hulll which is in better shape. So I was wanting to swap if possible. I guess ill just use the 97 sxp hull with the 787 and part out the 94 and 95
On another note is there any way to check the MPM or whatever they call the control box without an engine in the boat. I dont want to sell somethign which I cant proves is good or bad
what happened to the 720 engine........
