00' GTI hard start doesn't idle

Been having a tough time with my 2000 GTI. It will only start while holding the throttle all the way open then its a long crank before it starts. Once it does run its dragging before it gets going good. Also when you let off the throttle it doesn't idle.

I just had the carb completely rebuilt and it didn't solve the issue.......Any ideas??

check compression, if good, think i'd throw the carbs back at the dude's forehead.

I'm not much of a mech how can I test the compression?

Any chance this could be a battery or fuel issue?

hi mine did the same thing and the Compression was good it was a carb problem get your money back good mech are hard to find

What was the fix on yours the carb?

My understanding was the the compression was good however he found some items within the carb rebuild that he thought was the problem.

It is running better but it's still not 100% as it won't idle and often is slow to kick out of low

Check the rotary valve clearance.

Rotor valve was the problem! Thanks for the help. It's back running like a champ..
