WSM oil block off plate Q?

i just fitted a 580 WSM seadoo oil pump block off plate are these meant to come with a gasket? ive bolted mine down very tight and still see about a 1mm gap under the plate

ive removed the whole pump and drive gear
 
Weird...it should fit just fine. Sounds like it needs some massaging.

Put a dab of RTV on it once you get it fitting right.
 
got the plate to fit not 100% air tight so i added the RTV will test it again tomorrow is there any pressure on this plate when running the seadoo?
 
if it was me, just turn the plate upside down (so the protrusion faces outward) and just put some RTV as a gasket. I dont usually buy these anymore, i just usually use a scrap piece of metal and drill holes in it and seal it up. the protrusion doesnt do anything at all...
 
just had the doo running but everytime i start the doo the engine would creep up and up and up untill its reving hard now i know i have a air leak somewhere could the problem be the block off plate? u use the included 2 rubber caps and zip tied them so i think they are ok i disconnected the throttle cable at the carbs to make sure that wasnt the problem

Yep, if you have an air leak it will cause hi idle. I would make sure that plate is air tight.
 
yeah i just tested it using an old method i sprayed WD-40 around the plate while pushing the start button it idled nice than i touched the throttle very slightly than the revs went sky high
 
No, that blockoff plate has nothing to do with an air leak...the engine is sealed with the crank seals behind that blockoff plate, it is only to keep stuff out of the flywheel area. Check your carb gaskets to make sure they are good.
 
yeah thanks for the reply i may have gotten confused with the carbs i may have put the front carb on the rear and vise versa should the idle screw be on the front or rear carb?
 
If the block off plate is not sealed correctly on a 580 it will cause a air leak

The oil pump is mounted to the intake on a 580, and 720, not to the mag end of the crank like a 787. So an air leak here can be a problem.
 
i think i found the problem to remove the oil pump i had to split the two piece intake manifold and i didnt use RTV when reassembling im working on it now so i'll let u know when im finished how it goes
 
problem not found its still revving high ive sealed the block off plate, two manifold pieces together, manifold to block, carb base gaskets, clamps are tight on each fuel hose what next?
 
Have you tried cleaning/ adjusting the carbs? Use http://www.seadoosource.com/carbreference.html and it will tell you the carb settings that each ski should be set at. Have you tried simply to turn down the idle screw? Also you said when you blip the throttle that the ski revs up too high??? The throttle doesnt get stuck in the open position when you do this does it?

yep the carbs have been cleaned and i checked the mixture screws all is ok and i have turned the idle down to the point of it stalling still has the revving problem i can start the engine it will idle fine soon as i throttle up it revs and stays high

i had to drill out a screw which is above one of the mixture screws i drilled the slightest bit into the mixture channel but have filled in the hole with epoxy steel could this be the problem? the epoxy wouldnt have pushed into the mixture channel as its a thick dough type of steel putty
 
Well, did the ski run fine before you drilled into the carb? If so, then yeah I could see this being a problem. Sorry, dont really know much about 580s, only really worked on 720's and 787's, but just trying to use some general knowledge!

im not sure i bought the seadoo as a non runner it hasnt seen the water since 2005 also i just went to check the carbs again i removed both low speed screws the front carbs screw had all jelly crap on it i guess i didnt clean it good enough and it was only screwed 1/4th a turn out although i did screw it 1 1/4th out and start the engine its still running away do u thing the clogged low speed screw would be the problem?
 
found the problem guys!!!!! all along it was the on/off/res tap the top knob kept spinning it only done this this morning before today it would turn to each setting this morning looking at the screw it would only turn 50% of what it should be i tore off the knob as the screw is seized and turned the shaft with a shifter to res and the ski starts idles good revs up as i rev it and idles back down :)
