I decided to disassemble the entire oiling system to get all the oil out of there, and go back to XPS Synthetic.

When I pulled the oil filter off and started to drain the oil, it barely moved, so I thought i better pull the tank out and wash it.

When I pulled the larger tube that goes toward the carbs, the first half a cup of "stuff" that came out looked bad...hard to describe, but the best I can do is "like 1/2" round chunks of brown jello". Kinda like coagulated milk in consistency.

This likely explains why I had such a low oil consumption (remember that? When I started to add 1:80 premix). The engine has been starving for oil all the time I have had it, and no telling how long before that:o

I am wondering if this is from a mix of syntethic and mineral oil..

And now I am REALLY confused...

At the oil fill tube, it says

CAUTION

Use only Bombardier Rotax Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil
Ash-free-Biodegradeable
Spec. CEC L-33A-82

96 XP 787

Also found some of this...

Looks kinda like seaweed, but it is coagulated oil. I guess if it is not sumberged in the oil, and starts to dry out, it takes on this flaky greasy consistency.

More pics

Here is the sludge coming back out the hose that is at rest on the bottom of the hull...

I honestly think I am VERY lucky to not have seized this engine up before I did this job...

I was wandering that my self what type of oil. I thought it was supose to be synthetic when I look mine up in the manual it only states bombardier injection oil. You do have a good point that I have not dealt with. Which is oil injection. All engines I have dealt with for many years were premix or they were four stroke that may be why I was able to get by with so much neglect. The oil injection has its own oil tank that does not heat up to a operating temp like the other engines that I have dealt with in the past. I can see now how that could have a effect on how well 2 different types of oils may not be able to mix well.

Robin, I rewrote the previous posts because I talked to Karl and got it straight. You are supposed to use synthetic, and NOT mineral oil. I don't want someone to come on here and read my mistake and get more confused, so I rewrote it to jive more with the correction I was given today.

So this sludge MAY be from a mix of synthetic and mineral, but I do not know for sure. I don't know what the previous owner used. But I have use one gallon of XPS synthetic, and then half a gallon of Citgo Synthetic that says "approved for use on Seadoos" on the label.

Regardless, this is a good documentation of the cleaning of the oil system. Goes to show that you should pay decent attention to these older skis that may or may not have been maintained correctly by previous owners.

I used Karl's suggestion of sucking all the oil out with a wet-or-dry vac, and now have it all reassembled. I was getting ready to put in the new mineral oil and thought I would give him a call and make sure I was not confused, and I WAS...:ack:

Glad I called and got it straight before I really made a mess out of this.

Hmmm...I found my problem.

When I first got this seadoo, I went and bought a bunch of parts, and asked the parts guy what oil to use, and he plopped this gallon up on the counter. I used it. Then when I bought the synthetic stuff from Academy, I just kept adding the quarts to the gallon jug for easier storage.

I just went out and looked at gallon jug the parts guy sold me...XPS MINERAL oil:ack:

So I unknowingly did this to myself. I ran a gallon of mineral oil then started to run synthetic back on top of it, and now I have this huge mess to clean up...

Well, it never hurts to clean the injector system out and swap the filter...

bogging down at low revs!!

any suggestions?? the ski has been sitting since last July, used one time thats all, it was never winterized. how about installing a new fuel filter, after putting in some injector cleaner??? any thoughts, at high revs no porblem. basically at idle you have to pump the gas.
