951 Gtx limited 98.. just did the top end .. first time i had it in the water was today .. started out fine .. started the break in process.. couldnt get it to go about 5mph in the water and 2-3000 rpm... it would run as long as i wanted it to, but the engine would never just take off.. opened it up adjusted the carb and it sounded like it was idling great .. still wouldnt take off ... after a while it started leaking oil from the right rave valve... started right up every time .. would idle perfect.. got it home and checked the compression and it was 135-130... ANy ideas??

Did you put in a base gasket that was too thick? What was the "Squash Band" gap after you reassembled the engine.

no idea what that means.. Ive also discovered a water leak around the top of the jugs .. they gaskets are all new so how do i stop the water leak??

Not to sound like a jack-off... but... If you don't know what the squash gap is... you need to pick up the manual. Too big.... No power/low compression. Too tight, and you can melt the engine.

The leak is a strange problem. If you installed new gaskets... then either the head is warped, or the jugs are cracked. Unfortunately... the cracked jug is a common issue. If water is left in the engine over the winter... it will freeze, and split the jugs. (normally at the top)

I would never think you were a jack off, ive been around the forum too long, youre a godsend, thanks for all you do, saved me hundreds of dollars..OK, Stop both leaks.. one was a missed gasket and the other was a miss-alignment.. i got it running consistently at anything below 4000 rpm after that it cuts in and out but keeps running.. cant get it above 30 miles an hour.. i just cant get it over the hump to run at WOT,, any ideas... --- other notes after i got it home and cleaned the rave valves it ran like a bat outta hell for 15 minutes and then reverted back to the old ways... the valves were slammed covered in oil when i got it home again ... what would cause them to get so dirty so fast.... maybe im running it with too much oil ??
