Winterizing Q

Has anyone with actual Sea-Doo service experience ever fogged a 4tec motor? I have always done that with many 4-stroke marine engines, but I have never done it to my (purchased new) 2003 GTX 4-TEC. It would OBVIOUSLY need new plugs in the spring. Just an open question... NOT advocating a position.

It’s part of the storage procedures in the service manual and operators manual. For most op’s it’s part of the yearly winterization process which includes oil change, plugs and fogging cylinders with XPS lube.

I pulled my injectors/the repair manual, unplugged them, then sprayed fogging oil into the holes while cranking the engine. After that I pulled the plugs and sprayed into the cyl's also.

Yamaha sells Yamalube-Efi Engine Storage Fogging Oil 32Ozt (ACC-STORR-IT-32) made for fuel injected engines. I am not aware if Seadoo offers an equivalent.

I remove the hose between the super charger and the throttle body. Pour about 2 ounces of the oil into the hose the reconnect it.

Restart the engine and rev it a few times which draws it into the engine (lot of smoke). This way the valves are lubricated as well as the combustion chamber.

I typically install new plugs in the spring.

I fog all my stored engines, whether 2 or 4 stroke, without need to change the plugs. No problems in doing so in 40 years.

I was asking specifically about fogging a 4-tec while running w/fogging oil introduced into the throttle body. All of the comments are reasonable, and WAY more maintenance than some skis will probably EVER in the real world.

That recommendation is run hard, attempt cavitation when possible and quickly cover while it's still hot.

I had just never remembered seeing a standard induction type of "engine running" fogging as a recommended service on this forum or any other. No biggie.

The plug reference was because the "replace the plugs w/exact oem type" is commonly seen as a "first step" recommendation with any 4-tec ski that is just acting up or running a little strange. it's good advice, too.

I don't change them every year but have done it on occasion. It usually works on an otherwise well-maintained Sea-Doo 4-tec motor.

Not good to fog the traditional way on sea doos.the flame arrestor in the air box gets saturated with fog oil.plus the I jesters do t like the extra oil in the combustion chamber.i always pull the rail and spray in the intake plus coat the injector orings also.then take plugs out spray in the cyl.i use a old peice of primer line or oil injection line so I can spray around the bore.put injectors back in then plugs hold throttle wide open put on lanyard and turn motor over a few revolutions.holding the throttle wide open and putting on lanyard put it in drowned engine mode no spark or injection

I have had my 180 since 2010 never fogged my engine. Never had any issues.
Depends on location if you get alot of temp variations alot of moisture builds on the walls of cyl and above the rings water can puddle.i have had machines sit outside then bring them in the shop in January pull the head off and sure enough there was a small amount of water puddled in the bore on all cyl
