Winterize

Hi guys Im the proud owner of a GTI 4-tec Seadoo
Since I purchased it used (2007 model) I have no info on it and since the season is almost over Im wondering what I have to do to get it ready for the winter.
On the front of the seadoo there is a sticker that says its a Closed System good for salt water. Does this mean that I dont have to flush it with antifreeze. The oil change I can figure out. So other than the water that might be left in the system is there anything else. Mainly its the sticker that makes me think I dont have to do anything in regards to the water

You really should be flushing the ski after each use, especially in salt water!! There is a flush attachment that connects inside the pump housing on the stern of your ski. Connect the attachment and hose, turn on your ski, turn on the water immediately after starting, run it for 20-30 seconds at 4000rpm, shut off the water, then shut off the ski. Not a good idea to let that salt water sit in there!!

I refuse to answer a winterization question for at lead 30 more days. No bad Juju for me. The closed loop is exactly that. No salt water will touch your engine. HOWEVER, it will touch the intercooler (if you have one), the pumps system, hear exchanger and exhaust. So you do née to flush the engine still. The flush will flow to the same areas the salt water does except the impeller/pump area. Rinse that area with the hose.

I dont run the seadoo in salt water I was just commenting on what the sticker said. So even in a closed loop system I still have to plush the seadoo with antifreeze.

Only if its supercharged, if its N/A no antifreeze is needed. I heard you can blast air thru the line to get it clear but I have never tried it. Maybe someone has and can share how its done.

The dealers around here use air and then pour a small amount of antifreeze into the intercooler.

Not sure what supercharged or non supercharged has to do with winterizing a 4Tec.

The raw water circulates through the intercooler, if it has one, then exhaust manifold then waterbox. Air will clear out the intercooler and exhaust manifold but not the waterbox as it always has water in the bottom. I run RV antifreeze through the system then blow out any excess with air then I know the system is properly freeze protected. Fogging the cylinders is also required to protect the cylinders and valves from corrosion.

Fogging the cylinders. I also have a boat and would just pour oil slowly into the carburetor until it stalled. I dont think I can do that with a seadoo? Would I pull the spark plugs pour oil in and turn it over a few times?

You can spray fogging oil into the plug holes but the best way is to spray it into the carbs while running a little fast until it stalls. Some people use that little hole in the air arrester to spray it through. If you remove it (AR) then you may need help to do both carbs at once.

No carbs on a 4Tec.

Manual describes how to remove the fuel rail and injectors, spray fogging oil into the intake manifold, reinstall the fuel rail then crank the engine over with the throttle wide open to distribute the oil in the cylinders and coat the valves. After this I will remove the spark plugs and give each cylinder an extra shot of fogging oil. Holding the throttle wide open when cranking puts the engine in drown mode where it will crank over but will not start as the injectors remain closed, no fuel.

Supercharged engines have a intercooler, N/A's do not !! That has a lot to do with winterizing don't you think?? The intercooler will hold water, freeze and crack if nothing is done. The little water in the water box will not do a thing even if it freezes as it has plenty of room to expand.

All 185hp supercharged 4Tecs do not have intercoolers.

IMHO every engine should be properly winterized with RV antifreeze whether it's two stroke, four stroke, supercharged, intercooled or not.

If it doesn't have a intercooler there is nothing to be worried about. What is going to freeze? The exhaust is self draining...... 2 strokes are different as well, those I would add anti-freeze to but this was posted in a 4 stroke section so no need to discuss that.

I guess we have to agree to disagree, for the $5.00 it cost for a gallon of RV antifreeze I would not take the chance.

Here's a ? Can I fill a air hose with RV antifreeze and blow it in with air while doo running? I can't get a flush adaptor in time so it's jerry rig time!
